After winning the hearts of millions of children back in 1970 when he first hit our screens, Bagpuss is set to be the hottest Christmas toy this year after retailers revealed a big boost in sales.
More than 35 years after Bagpuss first graced our TV screens, the fluffy cat and his mice companions have seen the retailer Past Times record an 80% rise in sales – or 7,660 Bagpuss products.
Once voted Britain’s favourite ever children’s show in the 1970s, popularity of the merchandise might even soar higher after it has been revealed that the show could soon be back on air for a new generation.
“We’ve been swept away by the return of Bagpuss. One of the nation’s most treasured characters in the 1970s, the craze for all things retro has brought this furry pink cat back in fashion,” Penny Tunnell, product director of Past Times, has said.
