Tommy’s, the baby charity, has launched its PregnancyLine to advise mums-to-be at risk of pregnancy complications, and offer emotional and practical support to those who have suffered miscarriage or loss.
The phone line is free, paid for by an ASDA Foundation grant, and will be manned by qualified midwives. Their service combines advice for women who have suffered a pregnancy loss, such as miscarriage or stillbirth, with those who are concerned they may be at risk of complications due to obesity, smoking or previous problems.
“Pregnancy has to be one of the most exciting, spiritual and, at times, anxious experiences of my life,” explained Penny Lancaster, a supporter of Tommy’s who is currently expecting her second baby with hubby Rod Stewart.
“I am very aware that every pregnancy does not necessarily have a happy ending. It’s fantastic that, through Tommy’s PregnancyLine, the charity’s midwives can offer much-needed support for anyone going through the heartbreak of losing a baby, as well as help in planning for a healthy pregnancy in the future – emotional and practical support are therefore both just a free phone call away,” Penny explained.
You can reach Tommy’s midwives on 0800 0147 800, Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm.
