best toy garages

Wooden and traditional or plastic and modern, toy garages give little hands plenty to press, twist, park and vroom – and spark little brains into creating all sorts of imaginary stories and games. They come in a range of prices and sizes and vary from the simple and minimal to proper little light-up, noise-making numbers.

Whichever model you choose for your child, they are a great investment toy – with a ‘wow’ factor that’ll keep its play value for many months to come.

Here’s our pick of the best toy garages…

1. Big City Garage, £59.99

What it is: It’s a 2-storey garage (54cm x 78cm x 44cm) with car wash, helipad, ramps to zoom down, a wind up lift and sounds. Needs 2 x AA batteries (not included).

Why we love it: It’s really robust and sturdy, with ramps wide enough for bigger-size cars. It also has good detailing – we particularly like the little petrol pumps and the helicopter noises the helipad makes.

Available at: Early Learning Centre

2. Plan Toys Race N Play Parking Garage, £50

What it is: Made of chalk-friendly rubber wood, kids can add their own road markings or any patterns they like. Complete with a helipad, two parking levels and two cars. Dimensions: H 51.6 cm x L 43 cm x D 17 cm.

Why we love it: This is a sturdy wooden garage that’s pretty easy to assemble. We love that you can draw on it with chalk.

3. V-Tech Toot-Toot Drivers Garage (new version), £22.49

Age: 12 months +

Comes with a tow truck that triggers songs, phrases and fun sound effects when it goes over any of the garage’s 9 SmartPoints. Needs 2 AA batteries (not included) and 2 AAA batteries (included).

Why we love it: A well-priced, easy-to-assemble garage that’s firmly pitched at the under-3s and does lots for the money. The buttons to press are nice and chunky, and the sound effects are great – entertaining and educational but not too overwhelming.

Available at: Amazon

4. Hot Wheels Ultimate Garage, £99.99

Age: 3+

What it is: A metal garage measuring 76.2 x 14.6 x 61 cm (it’s BIG) – it can be added to other Hot Wheels tracks. The garage has space for 36 cars and comes with 5 cars and a helicopter.

Why we love it: Most of the buzz around this garage is about how big it is – yep, it’s really massive. Great for fun play – IF you have the space. While it has room for way more cars the you get with the set – lots of people have said that’s not really an issue as if your child wants a garage it means they probably have a fair few cars already!

Available from: Amazon

5. Brio Parking Garage Playset, £54.99

What it is: A 37cm x 27cm x 27cm 3-tier wooden garage with a lift, numbered parking spaces and a bright-red plastic ramp. Comes with 2 cars, 1 trailer, and 2 train-track ramps.

6. Bosch Car Service Station, £39.99

Age: 3+

What it is: Not strictly a garage, this: it’s a 41cm x 31cm x 13cm service station, featuring a lifting platform and a car wash with movable brushes. Comes with a car (with 4 spare wheels) and a screwdriver for taking the whole thing to pieces and putting it back again.

Available at: Amazon

7. Disney Pixar Cars Piston Cup Racing Garage, £19.99

Age: 4+

What it is: A 2-storey 30cm x 10cm x 33cm garage themed on the popular Disney Cars movies. Features a wide ramp and a lift. Comes with a diecast Lightning McQueen character car.

Why we love it: It’s sturdy, but compact – a real plus, if you’re short on space. And of course a surefire winner for any child who is Cars mad.

Available at: Amazon

Why we love it: First off, you need to know that this garage takes a bit of assembling before your child can play with it – you’ll want to give it a couple of hours. But if you’re up for that – we reckon it’s worth it. This garage is super sturdy (if it’s built right) and definitely stands the test of time. If you like wooden toys that’s an added bonus with this one, too.

Why we love it: This is so beautifully made. It’s not exactly a garage as such, but if your little one’s into cars, and is also beginning to enjoy counting, we reckon they’ll have lots of fun with this – and keep coming back to it.
