About Cake Lingerie
Cake Lingerie faces stiff competition from other specialists offering maternity bras, such as Figleaves and Hotmilk Lingerie, as well as department store own-brands. However, it is a successful global brand sold in over 45 countries, and has won recent recognition in the Junior Design Awards 2014 as well as the UK Lingerie Awards. Celebs including Heidi Klum, Dannii Minogue and Coleen Rooney are all said to be fans.
The Caramel Licorice Twist Bra
My first impressions of the Caramel Licorice Twist Bra were great – it’s really attractive and the balcony style provides good shape and lift. I love the design and the lacy overlay adds a sexy touch. The matching briefs are also really attractive without compromising on comfort.
It was comfortable to wear all day thanks to the soft fabric and lovely wide straps that didn’t dig into my shoulders. It sat well across my back and didn’t ride up, however I had slight imprints from the underwiring by the time I took it off. For this reason I wouldn’t choose to sleep in it or wear it for anything more impactful than typical day-to-day activities.
Is the bra supportive?
Support is a key factor with this bra, provided by the thick back band, boning in the seamed sides and the flexible wire, which gave my boobs great shape and lift. The bra also has a triangular A-frame around the breast when the cup is dropped down for feeding. This provides more coverage and support, making the bra an excellent choice for larger bust sizes.
Designed to grow with your boobs and rib cage expansion, the Licorice Twist bra has six different hook fastener positions. Personally, I found it a little too spacious around the top of the cups, but this special stretch feature is designed to allow for growth during pregnancy and when feeding.
Is it easy to clean?
In terms of cleaning, a separate cold hand wash is instructed, which is more high maintenance than other maternity bras I have. That said, I accidentally washed it with my main load and it survived just fine! Overall it gives the impression of being pretty robust.
Would you recommend this bra?
Yes, I’d recommend this bra specifically to nursing mums due to the soft cotton cup lining for absorbency and the inner support slings that help position the breast for support while feeding. The plastic push clasps also mean you can drop down the cups one-handed for convenience.
