In a nutshell

A well-designed highchair with lots of handy features. It's easy to fold and take with you when visiting, but just make sure the frame's locked in place each time you put it up.

The Cosatto Jam highchair is stylish and easy to clean. It has a great range of heights and is so easy to fold, you can use it away from home. However, it isn’t cheap.

Cosatto says it does ‘baby stuff with personality’ and for £180, its Jam highchair certainly has a sit-up and take notice price tag, too.  However, it’s clear that this chair has been built to last, and if it doesn’t, you can call upon the amazing four-year guarantee it comes with anyway.

Suitable from 6 months, much of the design seems to have evolved to ensure the highchair survives the messiness of weaning through to the tantrums of toddlers. There are a few clever features that will help it keep its good looks, and it can also be quickly folded away if necessary.

What we love

When you become a parent, there isn’t an area of the house that doesn’t get turned upside down by your new arrival but it’s perhaps in the kitchen that children can create the most destruction. Food and drink can end up all over the place and a highchair takes the brunt of the assault. On unpacking the Jam highchair, I worried I wouldn’t dare use it for fear of tarnishing its smart patterned seat padding and brushed metal frame. However, on reading the instructions, it’s clear there’s nothing to worry about. The seat padding is removable and washable and can also be reversed. The harness, often an area that gets grubby, comes with free covers that can be slipped off to wash and it’s made of a slightly shiny material, which wipes clean very easily. Its sleek shape leaves few places for bits of breakfast, lunch and dinner to get stuck in.

The frame itself has withstood being trodden on, thrown in the back of the car and crammed in a cupboard, as well as a few hammer blows from my son’s toy tool kit. It’s also incredibly light and although pretty enough to keep on display, it can be stored easily. I master folding it away in seconds and am impressed by how compact it becomes. This allows me to take it with me when visiting grandma and granddad’s without having use the entire boot space.

The tray can be adjusted into five different positions, ensuring your baby stays comfortable as she grows.

The height can be changed to six different settings. This includes one that’s very low – almost floor height – which I think is brilliant if you have more than one child. Your family could sit together around a toddler table or play together on the floor.

Finally, the four-year guarantee the Cosatto Jam comes with, like all Cosatto products, is really good to see. It inspires confidence and is a great selling point.

What to watch out for

Although the highchair’s lightweight frame comes into its own when you need to store it away,  it does mean that it doesn’t feel quite as stable as, for example, a heavier wooden highchair.

The seat itself isn’t very big and has quite a shallow base, although the padding does increase the comfort.

You have to be careful that certain points of the frame are fully in place when putting it up. There’s a warning on the frame but the chair does support itself even if the frame isn’t full locked into position so you have to check or it would be quite easy not to notice.

Despite the neat features and and guarantee, I feel it’s a little overpriced at £180 and sense mums are paying a premium for the cool branding Cosatto enjoys.

Who is the Cosatto Jam highchair best for?

Mums after a highchair they can store away, take in the car and keep looking clean and fresh for years to come.

The Cosatto Jam is a well-designed highchair with lots of neat features. It comes with a couple of niggles and a steep price tag, but also a fab four-year guarantee.
