Steps to make a papier mache pig

This paper mache piggy bank is fun to make and our downloadable template makes it easy to do – whether you’re naturally crafty or not!

You’ll need:

  • Our downloadable pig template printed out
  • Pink or red paint
  • PVA Glue
  • Old Newspaper
  • Balloon
  • Sticky Tape
  • Paint Brush
  • Card
  • Safety Scissors
  • Wiggly Eyes (optional)

Step 1

Inflate your balloon to make the body of the pig. Download the template here. Glue on card then cut out each of the shapes for the pig’s ears, snout, tail and feet.

Step 2

Bend the leg and snout pieces into shape and use tape to hold in place. Then fix the legs, ears and snout onto the balloon using sticky tape.

Step 3

Dilute 1 part PVA with 2 parts water. Then use the mixture to attach newspaper pieces to the balloon. Cover the whole surface with strips of newspaper.

Step 4

Leave your piggy bank to dry overnight.

Step 5

When dry, paint him! You can either paint on the pig’s eyes or glue on wiggly eyes. Then, wait for the paint to dry.

Step 5

Brush your pig with PVA glue and water for a shiny finish. Finally, to turn your piggy into a place to store pocket money, pop the balloon inside and make a small hole the size of a 50 pence piece in the top.
