My baby boy has just turned one and is still breastfeeding i would really like to wean him off the breast as he is a bit of a biter, some times he will literally clamp on til i prise his mouth open to get him off, it really hurts!
i have tryed offering him cows milk in a beaker, cup and today even tryed a bottle but he wont take it and at nap and bedtime will only sleep on the breast.
im starting to feel a little trapped as i see no way of weaning him...
any suggestions would be massively appriciated!

my boy breastfed until he was 2. he was a biter too. think they do it though cos of their new teeth. its not intentional but it really hurts sometimes. i suggest if you feel like getting him off it...to feed him up with the other foods befor bed times, ensure hes tired after a good few hrs playing at the park .so he will fall to sleep faster. have the option of a bottle ready with your breastmilk in it.if breaswt milk doesnt work in the bottle. try rice milk. itsw similar in its consistency and is not likely to cause tummy problems thru allergies like cows milk does sometimes. wearing a few layers of newly washed clothes or maybe buy a new top that doesnt smell like your usual smell or milk and wear it for the first few weaning him off days. rather than holding him in the usual breast feeding position lay beside him and hold him*do this on a day that you are serious about stopping, not on a day you maight get worked up by his possible persistent crying in protest or a day that you think tomorrow or next week you might change your mind because you miss the closeness. and then sing to him to distract him or play with a teddy. make the teddy talk to him to distract his mind before he starts to search for your breast if he looks like hes going to. until he, Lord willing , gets soo tired that he will fall to sleep without it. leave one of your tops or jumpers with him for him to still smell your smell as comfort incase he wakes up and wants the breast comfort . if he starts to protest offer him the same milk thats from you, in the bottle. maybe put some of it on the nipple so he cannot smell the rubbery smell of the teat and just be calm, loving and persistent. tell him kindly that you enjoy feeding him but that now it hurts mummy to do(whatever word you use) and that your sorry that it is not going to happen any more.you could maybe tell him that at his last feed. they do understand things , even at an early age like this. and it will make you feel better to tell him kindly whats going to happen next time.

if after trying different things and being consistent and persevering he is still getting upset then try putting him in nhis car seat in the car and driving around slowly until he falls to sleep. give him his favourit teddy n usual blanket, even a bottle of warmed rice milk (if you dont want to use your own milk any longer) to hold or beside him and talk to him as he falls to sleep. a few days of this before nap times and he will be less use to having breast milk and then you can maybe try the above. good luck. better to stop npw than start to remember breast feeding as being nice and a special thing between the two of you. BLESSINGS
