    Hi ladies,

Ella is 5 and half weeks old, is exclusively breastfed and normally an excellent feeder and a good natured and happy girl.

Over the last 2 weeks we've had a period in the mornings between 4 and 6 where she makes lots of grunting noises which sound like she's trying to do a poo normally she gets it out and she's fine. But this morning she got into a real state and would only calm down after being held by me and dad. She last did a full feed at 1:30 and has only snacked really since then and is being sick some of the snack. She's very grumpy and still making the grunting noises.

I've tried winding her and she burps and she hasn't got a temp or anything, she can be comforted but just doesn't seem totally herself....

has anyone got any ideas of what might be wrong or if their baby has had anything similar....

    thanks for reading, em xxx

    Hi Hun,

We have exactly the same at the moment with Amber, since yesterday she has been grunting and going very red in the face like she is really pushing for a poo, but no poo in her nappy - just lots of trumps!!

My hv said that it is quite common for breast fed baby's to do this and not to poo for a few days too, but to me my girl seems constipated. I am not sure what to try as we give her infacol and this brings her wind up but she just seems to be really struggling with it at the moment.

If you find a way to help your girl, let me know your tips xx

If she's still making little grunting noises I would get her checked out. It could be nothing more than funny little noises that they make sometimes, but as you mention the lack of feeding, it can be a sign of breathing difficulties, but that would also be accompanied by her chest moving up and down more than usual etc. Phone NHS Direct and describe her symptoms more thoroughly and they'll advise but if you are in ANY doubt, take her to A&E for a once over.

Good luck and I hope little Ella is ok and just doing funny things!xx
