Dentist says I need one, I have put it off for a few years due to expense and my dislike of the dentist, but now it's free....
but the dentist says it will be a metal one, so anyone had one? How obvious are they if they are not tooth coloured? Does it hurt? How long does it take for it to feel normal again? TIA

I've had two crowns on the NHS, they are metal (I think??) but coated in 'tooth' colour but that maybe because they are where you can see them (both sides 4th from the front at the top). Where will your crown be?
Have they taken out the nerve etc yet? Its about the same as a filling I'd say, I always ask for extra anaesthetic but I am a wuss at the dentist as have had so much treatment over the years I always take painkillers before I go (not for checkups, but if having treatemnt)
My only annoyance about the crowns now is that I have whitened my teeth so the crowns are a good few shades yellower than my teeth!

He said it will definately be silver not tooth coloured. It's about three from the back at the bottom so not noticeable when I smile but maybe when I talk. I think the previous filling is a root one so maybe the nerve is gone? I'm not sure.
