My husband is a teacher so we are tied to school holidays with the next long one being at Easter. We are thinking of going to the Canaries when I will be 27-28 weeks.
The flight times are good ie no early starts but the flight itself is about 5 hours with probably about 1 hour on the bus to the resort.
I'm only 16 and a half weeks just now and feel great but I've no idea how I'm going to feel come April.
Anyone travelled at this stage, or later that can give advice?
What would you do? Go or stay home?

Personally, I would plan to go. If you imagine yourself working, getting about, seeing friends, and well, *functioning* at that stage of the pregnancy then you will be fine with the journey. That said, you could be poorly. But as a non-pregnant person you could also be poorly and unable to travel...
A holiday at that time would you the world of good, I reckon. And the last chance for that peace and coupley-time before late pregnancy kicks in proper! I would go, personally x

I think counter has some wise words there CA. I think a holiday us a great idea. I'm a bit jealous!

I'd go too :) We are looking at the canaries the week before half term! H is / was a teacher too, but left a Xmas and now does supply work whilst he finds something else. Where abouts in the canaries are you looking at? We have been looking at Tenerife, never been before.

Go! I went on holiday to Corfu at 30 weeks and returned at 32 weeks, I needed a doctors note for the return flight but it was honestly one of the best holidays we have had. Chilled out relaxing in the sun. Things to ensure is adequate travel insurance, your airlines flying regulations (we went monarch) and you cannot use some insect repellents. As long as your pregnancy is a healthy one it will be fine - if you get insurance when you book you will also be covered if you cannot fly due to pregnancy related illness (we used Liverpool Victoria ) xx

I'd definitely say go! I would love to fit in a break around now (29+6) but because of the time of year we'd have to go quite far for some sun and H has only just started a new job so it wouldn't work. I can think of anything better than a week of relaxation right now!
Just make sure you have good travel insurance. A friend of mine was about 25 weeks and was supposed to be going to a wedding abroad. She picked up a bug before they went and the doctor advised her not to travel. It ended up taking her ages to get the money back as the insurance company were so rubbish, and it went on for weeks - it was just added stress she didn't need.

Definitely go! You know we're hoping to be away around the same time, so if I can do it then so can you. We can message each other from our sun loungers on the beach :)

I think 28 weeks is the time of your pregnancy when you bloom. you have a proper bump but it's not too big and uncomfortable. I wouldn't go for obvious reasons but if you have a healthy pregnancy you should go and enjoy yourself.

Another one who votes go! I've had a healthy pregnancy and at 28 weeks was feeling great. A week in Fuerteventura will be bliss! We went there in Jan a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it!

I wouldn’t go as me, because I’ve been horrendously sick all the way through, but if you feel great now there’s no reason why that won’t continue, so I’d say go.

I went to Milan when I was 5 months pregnant. I had a very smooth pregnancy & didn't feel ill so it was fine, although I did end up in a seat that wouldn't recline which was a pain. I also spent a bit of the return flight standing up as it was more comfortable but would definitely recommend it. You don't really need to let pregnancy stop many things if all is well

I'd go, for sure. You won't be in the uncomfortable late pregnancy phase, so it'll be nice to just chill out.

I would have been absolutely fine at 28 weeks both times. Go!
23/01/2014 at 09:32
Definitely go. But make sure you get insurance as soon as you book the holiday and make sure they will cover you for pregnancy related illness- as you are already aware of the pregnancy you need to tell them about it when you buy the insurance to make it valid.
28 weeks would be a great time to go, before you get really big and uncomfortable, a lovely way to recharge your batteries ready for the final few weeks

Following this interest with thread - we want to go on one last holiday before baby born but bit worried about 2 long on the flight. Banzy - wow to your 16 hour flight!

After having C at 27 weeks, I wouldn't have dreamt of going away at that stage with my next pregnancy. I would have worried too much.
As someone without the worry of a prem birth, I would probably go.

I plan to do this too CA, on a family holiday in France, so not a long flight. But we had already planned to do it before I got pregnant so as long as everything goes well I plan to continue with my plans. But it's my first too, so things may change as I have no past experince to go by!
