I've just found out fantastic news that I'm around 5 weeks pregnant
the only issue is that I am due to start a new job at the end of this month. I am now worried that I won't qualify for any maternity pay which is going to come as a big blow to me and OH as it will make a big difference on our income.
can any one shed some light as to where I stand. I guess I'll be about 7/8 weeks by the time I start with new employer??

Congrats! You won't get maternity pay but if you've worked for 26 weeks in the 66 weeks running up to your due date you will get maternity allowance from job center. I'm kinda in the same boat 5 weeks preg and being made redundant on July 4th x

Forgot to say the 26 weeks don't have to be consecutive or with the same employer so could be say 3 months with old employer and 3 months with new. You will just have to go jobcentre with wage slips to prove you've been working and earnt at least 30 quid a week x

I just feel absolutely gutted. Worked full time my whole life, with my last employer 5 years! Don't know how I could have been so silly in not planning this out right!
I should be just enjoying this moment, now feeling dred of how we will manage financially
sorry for pitiful moaning, just a bit of a worry

Honestly don't worry if you've worked 5 years for your old employer and are starting a new job now then you will qualify for maternity allowance and its paid every 2 or 4 weeks and is the same as maternity pay. Think max you can get is 135 a week which you will qualify for if you've been working full time. You may even find your better off as MA isnt classed as income like smp is so you don't have to declare it when you apply for tax credits meaning you'll get more tax creds x
