How long after your BFP did you start buying things for your baby?
Even if it was just 1 sleepsuit...

after 20 week scan we bought a man city kit
nothing else till the pram (ordered it about 28 weeks) everything else 30 odd weeks
issac, i got everything out the loft about 30/32 weeks and bought the odds and ends around 36 weeks

Bought some teeny tiny socks in tesco after 12 week scan. But nothing else until well after the 20 week scan. Although once we'd had the 12 week scan we did start looking at things to decide what we wanted.but I'm far too superstitious to buy things early.
This time I wanted to start buying nappies early to get a stockpile but h wouldn't let me until after the 20 week scan.

After the 20 week scan.
I hate white/neutral stuff, so waited to find out what flavour I was having, so I could buy gender specific stuff.
My Mum bought stuff as soon as i told her I was pg.

a friend bought me something at about 8 weeks. I think I held off until after the 12 week scan. Went a bit crazy then restrained myself until 20 weeks!!

After our 12 week scan we bought a little sleep suit. Started researching prams around then as well but took us a while to decide, nothing else was even ordered until I was about 28 weeks.

We bought a teddy immediately after the 12 weeks scan but haven't bought anything else yet. Have been looking though and will probably start in the next month or two.

I'll probably be the outlier here. I'm a bit intolerant about superstition. We bought a pack of sleepsuits about 7 weeks in. Because I firmly believe whether it's good news or bad that things do NOT happen because of something you buy in a shop (anyone seen that Tim Minchin interview "I hope your plane crashes"?). And it would be horrible for anyone to 'blame themselves' in some way because they bought something nice and therefore tempted fate. I just don't subscribe. I know lots of other people feel differently, my mum and sister have had a lot of fertility/pregnancy problems and I've had a mc so I'm not ignorant to the reasons why people may prefer to wait, I can see that it's quite important to some people to hold off.
The great thing is that H and I are both equally non-superstitious so it suited us to start buying things. We've also been buying new or secondhand classic children's books. I also bid on a cot on eBay recently. I really want to spread the cost and not save all the big purchases until Xmas or the end. I was off sick for so long with my first pregnancy I want to buy things whilst I'm still able to earn!
My sister is expecting twins so if for any reason we no longer need the things we have, she can have them, or they can go to charity.

14 weeks, a sleep suit from Thailand. 18 weeks the pram, everything else after 20 weeks.

First time round after the 20 week scan we starting seriously thinking about bits and pieces - think it was all a bit surreal until that point! I was itching to start the nursery but H made me wait until then. Didnt know the gender so didnt go overboard on clothes, just a few sleepsuits.
Second time it all went a bit crazy when the 12 week scan revealed twins! had to move the nursery, redecorate and organise 'big boy room' for the eldest, find second cot/car seat/double buggy etc - load of stuff we didnt expect to have to do - oh and get a new car!! we put plans in place but didnt buy anything until after the 20 week scan again.

I think we will look at prams after the 12 weeks, so we can look around and find one we really want, I expect to wait till after the 20 week scan to buy stuff but I know I wont be able to wait that long lol!

After the 20 week scan. Our pram was delivered the day before I went into labour, I was worrying slightly by that point.

We bought a neutral sleep suit after the twenty week scan. We ordered the pram and Moses basket a few weeks later, then most other bits after thirty weeks or so. Because we weren't finding out the sex we only bought a few newborn clothes...good job as he only wore one sleep suit for a few hours until my mum had managed to get to asda and get some bigger ones!

Nothing yet I am to scared. People keep giving us stuff, I made my husband put it in the loft. Not sure when we will start buying things.

I've bought a sleepsuit so far which I did just after the 12 week scan, and today I ordered the jumperoo... bit premature and probably should focus on getting more important bits and pieces first but can't resist a bargain! I think we'll start getting some more bits after the 20 week scan.

counter i agree, bad things dont happen because you have bought a sleep suit etc, they happen because they do.
i just didnt feel the need to go out early to buy anything with L, we waited till after 20 weeks, in all seriousness your tastes/needs change, so for example you might buy a pram at 5 weeks then go to 20 week scan and realise that baby has lung problems and will need oxygen long term, so then you would need a pram that could carry that about iyswim. so i waited till 20 weeks then started researching things and seeing what types of things we liked and then it meant we didnt have it gathering dust for 9 months.
with isaac, due to loosing william and then 2 mc, i just couldnt bring myself to look at baby clothes/paraphanalia, because then id have to admit i was pregnant, and as all the hitched girls know, i actually managed to get through isaacs pregnancy without uttering the word 'pregnancy' or ''expecting' or possibly even 'baby'

A few sleepsuits after the 12 week scan then at about 18 weeks we bought the pram, car seat and isofix base. After the 20 weeks scan we ( I) went a bit mad and have since bought lots of things!
02/09/2013 at 20:15
We brought nothing until after the 20 week scan at which point we brought a cuddley rabbit. We then didnt buy anything else for ages I can't quite remeber when but 28/30+ mark for cot etc and parm clothes I didn't buy much just some neutral basics prob around the 35ish mark when midwife started saying I really ought to pack my hspital bag

I agree with CP, bad things don't happen because you bought sleepsuits, but if something bad happens you'd have loads of stuff that isn't needed.
First time round, we bought sleepsuits after 12 week scan, actually ordered pram before 20 week scan only because had £200 off it. Everything else was after.
This time, we have 12 week scan next week. If all is ok I thinj we will go buy a little teddy or other stuffed toy, to try and make it seem real as I'm kinda burying my head in the sand! Won't need much else as have pram, crib, cot etc, so will wait till 30 odd weeks, will brighten up the post Christmas winter months!

I bought a lovely little twin pack of sleepsuits and bibs before the 12 week scan.
