Homebirths are on the up, says Dr Myles Taylor, one of the UK's leading obstetricians

Thinking of a home birth? Well, the Department of Health has recently issued a statement encouraging more mothers to do just this. There were 15,198 home births in 2004, up 7% on the 14,204 in 2003. Most midwives believe it’s safe for those women who’ve been appropriately selected, with high satisfaction rates, so if you’re interested in a home birth, talk to your midwife or obstetrician.
