Pros

  • Great value, leak proof, re-sealable tabs, comfy for baby

Cons

  • None

Aldi’s newborn disposable nappy offering, Mamia New Born Nappies, punch well above their price tag. With no leaks, re-sealable tabs and softness on offer, these are hard to fault.

It’s a sad day when you find yourself getting excited about nappies. But maybe that day has come, with the arrival of the bargain-priced yet efficient Mamia New Born Nappies from Aldi.

Let’s not mince words here – newborn poo is a real challenge for any nappy. And with countless changes each day (and long, sleepless night) you end up spending a lot of cash on them. So, to find a budget brand that doesn’t cut corners is a great thing.

Aldi Mamia New Born Nappies claim to “keep your newborn comfortable and dry whilst your baby adjusts to its new surroundings”. They certainly do that, at a cost of just 7p per nappy.

I’d heard the hype about the Mamia brand and read about their “anti-leakage system”, but I didn’t believe it until I’d tested them on 4-week-old poo factory Evie, a baby so discerning that even a mere hint of a dirty nappy sends her into a massive screaming fit. If something’s not right down there, she’ll sniff it out, but the Mamia New Born Nappies stood up to the challenge.

What we love

What’s not to love? First, the price is bargain bucket. A 24-pack of size 1 is £1.79. But that doesn’t mean there’s any compromise on quality. They have the same ‘look’ as leading brands, with cute rabbits having a dance between some palm trees on the front, and they have the same softness, too.

With a wriggling baby, it’s important that the sticky sides really do stick – and stick again if you get it wrong first time. The Aldi Mamia’s re-sealable overlapping fastener tapes definitely tick that box.

The ultimate test came when Evie tried them with her best white babygrow. The law of baby dictates that if there’s ever a time a nappy’s going to leak, it’s when your little bundle of joy is wearing something pale. In a full week of pretty explosive testing, these nappies didn’t leak once. That anti-leakage system certainly works!

All this without a hint of nappy rash. Excellent.

What to watch out for

Nothing! Honestly, there are no minus points with these nappies. They’re great.

Who are Aldi Mamia New Born Nappies best for?

Parents who want a leak-free newborn nappy, but don’t want to flash too much cash.

MadeForMums verdict

A budget brand that will blow you away! Aldi’s Mamia New Born Nappies take on the big-name brands and win in terms of comfort, absorbency and value.
