Rotating car seats are a real game changer — this clever design lets you swivel the seat towards your open car door, making it easier to put your child in and out of the seat, and saving your back in the process.

To help you decide which swivel car seat is best for you, we’ve extensively reviewed hundreds of car seats, tested by real parents with their families, to create our expert guide to the best options on the market.

We know your child’s safety is paramount when it comes to choosing a rotating car seat. So in addition we’ve spoken to experts from the organisations RAC and Child Seat Safety about safety advice, and taken into account safety testing carried out by ADAC, one of the leading testers of car seats in Europe.

Best swivel car seats at a glance

If you want more information about key features of 360 car seats, what to look for when buying a rotating car seat and more, you’ll find all the answers at the bottom of our roundup.

How we chose our best 360 and swivel car seats

Each 360 car seat featured in our selection has been thoroughly tested by a parenting journalist. We considered ease of installation and use, child comfort, longevity, dimensions and weight, suitability for different age groups, and additional features that enhance both convenience and safety. We also considered whether each model offers good value for money.

Our best lists rely on a number of sources, including our independent reviews and feedback from our parent testers in the MadeForMums Club.

We also took into account expert advice from RAC and Child Seat Safety, plus independent safety testing from ADAC where relevant.

Our list is not an ordered ranking. Instead, it is a carefully chosen group of tried-and-tested products, each of which we believe is best for a different situation or requirement.

Best 360 car seats tried and tested by parents

Cybex Cloud T i-Size and Base T, £399.90

Best for: use with travel systems

cybex cloud t tester image

Why we chose it: This infant car seat stands out for combining rotating convenience with travel system compatibility and a lie-flat design that works both in and out of the car.

Although expensive, I can see why the Cloud T comes in at the higher end of the price range as it’s functionality makes it more than just a car seat. It not only ticks the boxes for safety, but also comfort for baby and ease for parents - priceless?
MFM reviewer Jessica, who tested the seat with her four-month-old daughter (pictured)

What we like

  • Lie-flat setting helps make journeys and transfers more comfortable for younger babies
  • Can be removed from the base and attached to compatible pushchairs including the Cybex Priam and Cybex Balios S Lux
  • Breathable fabrics and deep, cocooning seat design
  • Base T can also be used with other compatible Cybex seats such as the Solution T i-Fix
  • Good ADAC score

What to keep in mind

  • It’s expensive
  • As an infant seat, it has a shorter lifespan than many all-stage rotating options

ADAC Score1.7 — Good (when used with Base T)

Unlike many other spin options, the Cybex Cloud T car seat seat can be removed from the swivel base and fixed to a compatible pushchair as part of a travel system. When used outside of the car, the Cloud T can recline to a nearly fully-flat position, creating a flattened back and extended leg rest for a more comfortable ride.

When used with the ISOFIX base, this version can also be placed in a reclined position while in the car, giving parents extra peace of mind. Parent tester Ellie told us that baby appeared “safely cocooned within the deep seat”, and also praised how easy it was to release the carrier from the base without waking him.

This is a rear-facing-only infant seat, so it won’t last as long as some others in this roundup, but if you want the flexibility of a rotating base and travel system compatibility, it’s one of the strongest options here.

Ickle Bubba Radial 360, £149

Best for: budget-conscious parents who want a longer-lasting rotating seat

Ickle Bubba Radius 360 rotating car seat tester picture

Why we chose it: It offers impressive longevity and everyday ease of use at a much more accessible price than many rotating rivals.

This car seat is fantastic value for money because it grows with your baby from birth right up approximately 7 years old. The 360-degree rotation feature means that journeys are as hassle-free as possible, and the high-quality soft material inside the seat is super comfortable for little ones.
MFM reviewer Nicola, who tested the car seat with her 3-month-old son (pictured)

What we like

  • Great value for a seat that lasts up to around age 7
  • Smooth 360° rotation that’s easy to use even with a sleeping baby
  • Well-padded and comfortable for little ones
  • Machine-washable covers
  • Can be fitted with ISOFIX or seat belt

If you’re looking for a rotating seat that will last the distance at a reasonable price, this could be the one. It has a very competitive price tag while offering a long life and useful details such as a headrest and harness height you can adjust with one hand.

MFM reviewer Nicola used the seat with her 3-month-old son Louis for both short day-to-day journeys and longer road trips. She was especially impressed by the smooth rotation, saying it was so easy that it didn’t wake him when he was asleep.

As you’d expect for such a long-lasting seat, it’s fairly chunky, so it’s not the best choice if you regularly move seats between cars or need to maximise passenger legroom in a smaller vehicle.

Joie i-Spin 360, £200

Best for: easy reclining action

Joie i-Spin 360 rotating car seat tester picture

Why we chose it: With six recline settings, sturdy build quality and one-handed rotation, this is a strong all-rounder for comfort and day-to-day practicality.

I like the fact that the seat can turn around so I can easily put my baby into it and I also like the recline option, which can help her to feel more comfortable and send her off to sleep quicker. I would recommend this car seat because it does look and feel secure, and the headrest provides excellent support.
MFM reviewer Ima, who tested the car seat with her 13-month-old daughter

What we like

  • Six recline settings make it easy to find a comfortable position
  • One-handed rotation is genuinely useful
  • Strong safety features including Guard Surround panels and TriProtect headrest
  • Installation indicators offer extra reassurance
  • Uses recycled materials and has side ventilation

When it comes to safety and comfort, the i-Spin 360 delivers. Joie’s extendable Guard Surround panels offer extra protection for the head, body and hips, while the TriProtect headrest includes three layers of cushioning, including memory foam.

There’s also a clever swivel lock-off feature so you can’t accidentally rotate your child into a forward-facing position too early. MFM reviewer Ima praised the seat’s sturdiness and wide choice of seating positions, especially the easy one-handed recline.

With a good ADAC rating of 1.8, this is a popular seat that offers strong value alongside i-Size compliance.

If you're looking for a seat that offers longevity, the i-Spin Safe is a great choice that combines top safety with excellent comfort.

Safety features include Guard Surround safety panels and a deeply cushioned headrest with memory foam. It also scored 1.6 with ADAC, placing it at the top end of the “good” category.

Thule Maple + Alfi base, £498

Best for: intuitive installation

Thule Maple car seat tester picture and product shot

Why we chose it: The standout here is the Alfi base, which makes installation and day-to-day use feel reassuringly clear and low-stress.

The Thule Maple (alongside the Alfi ISOFIX base) offers a low-stress experience for installation and use, however, it's not the most cushioned of car seats. I would recommend this seat if you want to know that you have installed your car seat securely – the electric light system is very effective and reassuring.
MFM reviewer Gemma, who tested this car seat with her 2-month-old son

What we like

  • EasyDock and light-up safety systems make installation particularly intuitive
  • Lightweight seat that’s easy to take on and off the base
  • Comfortable head and shoulder fit for younger babies
  • Soft, flexible straps and easy recline mechanism
  • Can also be used on a pushchair as part of a travel system

What to keep in mind

  • Cushioning could be softer
  • The base needs to be bought separately
  • It doesn’t feel as robust as some rivals

This clever base uses technology designed to make installation quick, easy and reassuring. AcuTight only activates when both ISOFIX connectors are engaged, while the SenseAffirm system provides a digital display showing whether adjustments have been made correctly.

Our favourite feature is EasyDock, which simplifies attaching the seat to the base. You simply dock the seat, rotate to lock and go. MFM reviewer Gemma was particularly impressed by how straightforward and error-free the process felt.

The seat itself is lightweight, has a large UPF50+ canopy, a 3-point harness and impact protection, making it a practical infant option for parents who want convenience as well as reassurance.

Thule Elm car seat + Alfi base, £568

Best for: easy everyday use with a toddler

thule elm

Why we chose it: This is a particularly parent-friendly toddler seat, combining easy installation with a roomy, comfortable fit for growing children.

A unique feature that I haven’t seen on any other car seat is that you can pop the car seat onto the base at any angle of rotation and it will fit on. This is thanks to the circular design on the bottom of the seat - which is worlds away from the regular bases you find on seats that have to be in one set position to lock in.
MFM reviewer Rob, who tested this car seat with his 8-month-old and 3-year-old sons

What we like

  • Very easy to install and use with the Alfi base
  • Comfortable for both babies and toddlers
  • Adjustable harness and headrest help it grow with your child
  • Clear digital safety guidance adds reassurance
  • Strong ADAC result in 2025

What to keep in mind

Using the same Alfi base as the Thule Maple above, the Thule Elm offers a longer lifespan and is designed to grow with your child. Magnets on both sides hold the harness buckle open, which makes lifting toddlers in and out much easier.

MFM reviewer Rob tested it with both his 8-month-old and 3-year-old sons and was particularly impressed by how comfortable they seemed on journeys, including a trip lasting just under two hours.

Installation is one of the biggest strengths here. As with the Maple, the circular docking design and digital display make the setup feel clear, secure and genuinely easy for one person to manage.

Silver Cross Approach Plus 360 and Base Plus 360, £495

Best for: a premium rotating car seat from birth

Silver Cross Approach 360 tester picture and product shot

Why we chose it: This premium seat combines strong safety features, plush comfort and a smooth 360° swivel that makes everyday loading much easier on parents’ backs.

The Silver Cross Approach Plus 360 is a brilliant option for new parents and those juggling children at different stages, offering a rare mix of practicality, comfort and proper peace of mind. The standout feature is without a doubt the smooth 360° swivel function — it makes getting a sleepy newborn or baby in and out of the car so much easier, especially on busy streets or rushed nursery runs.
MFM reviewer Sandy

What we like

  • Strong safety features including Side Impact Protection and supportive newborn insert
  • Comfortable, cocooning fit for younger babies
  • Breathable bamboo fabrics and ventilation panels help with airflow
  • Smooth 360° rotation makes side-loading much easier
  • Suitable from birth to around 4 years old
  • Premium, sturdy design that feels built to last

What to keep in mind

  • The ISOFIX base is sold separately, which pushes up the total price
  • It’s bulky for smaller cars and unlikely to fit three seats across
  • It’s heavy to move between vehicles

This is a strong option for families who want a premium main-use seat from birth to around age 4 and don’t mind paying more for comfort, build quality and convenience. It’s less suited to households that need to fit three seats across or move car seats regularly between cars.

Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro car seat, £399.99

Best for: a long lifespan

Maxi-Cosi Emerald 360 Pro i-Size Car Seat tester picture and product image

Why we chose it: If you want one rotating seat that takes your child from birth right through to the end of their car seat years, this is one of the strongest options available.

There’s currently nothing else on the market like it. You simply pull out a lever on the side of the seat, turn the seat 90 degrees and then pull the seat out towards you. Once your child is strapped in you push the seat back and swivel it rear-facing. This can really take away the strain on your back as there’s no need to stoop into the car and it was a more comfortable experience for my baby too.
MFM reviewer Sarah

What we like

  • Suitable from birth to 12 years
  • 360° rotation plus SlideTech sliding function
  • Easy-in harness stays out of the way while you lift your child in
  • Colour-coded installation indicators are helpful
  • Good airflow and supportive newborn inlay

If you're looking to invest once and use the same seat for years, the Emerald 360 Pro is an excellent all-stage choice. It includes a newborn inlay for smaller babies and can then be adjusted as your child grows.

Our reviewer especially liked how simple installation felt thanks to the colour-coded ISOFIX connectors and green/red indicators. The unique SlideTech base is the real standout, allowing the seat to slide out towards you after turning, which makes loading far easier on your back.

It is undeniably large and heavy, but for families who want maximum longevity and everyday convenience, it makes a strong case for the higher price.

Graco Turn2Me i-Size R129, £160

Best for: i-Size on a budget

Graco Turn2Me i-Size R129 car seat

Why we chose it: This is a good-value way to get a full 360° swivel and i-Size certification without jumping to a much higher price bracket.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend the Graco Turn2Me i-Size car seat. It's good value for money compared to similar models by well-known brands, is relatively lightweight for this type of car seat and is straightforward to install once it has been lifted into the car.
MFM reviewer Harriet, who tested the car seat with her 2-month-old and 2-year old sons (pictured above)

What we like

  • 360° spin is easy to use
  • Ten recline positions in total across both directions

Offering excellent value, a 360-degree spin and R129 certification, the Graco Turn2Me i-Size R129 is a solid budget-friendly pick. It can be used rear-facing until around 4 years old, with optional forward-facing from 15 months.

MFM reviewer Harriet found it relatively easy to install and liked the solid support leg and clear green indicator system. She did feel it was better suited to older babies and toddlers than very small newborns, as the recline didn’t feel quite deep enough for her youngest baby.

If you want a well-priced rotating i-Size seat and can accept a little less cushioning than premium models, this is a sensible buy.

Avionaut Stardust, £349.95

Best for: extended rear-facing

Avionaut Stardust tester picture and product shot

Why we chose it: This is one of the rare rotating seats that allows rear-facing travel well beyond the norm, making it a standout for parents who want to rear-face for as long as possible.

The roomy seat, ability to rear face up to 6/7 years old, combined with the convenience of the 360 degree rotation meant that the Avionaut Stardust has not disappointed. Having used the Avionaut Stardust for a few months now, we are confident that it will serve our family until we no longer require a car seat or high back booster for our little girl.
MFM reviewer Sophie, who tested the car seat with her 3 children

What we like

  • Suitable from birth to 12 years with newborn insert
  • Extended rear-facing up to 125cm/21kg is very unusual for a rotating seat
  • Breathable seat fabrics and ventilated airflow design
  • Roomy, comfortable seat with one-handed recline
  • Good balance of comfort, safety and longevity

Similar to the Maxi-Cosi Emerald above, the Avionaut Stardust is a long-lasting car seat, suitable from birth right up to 150cm. What sets it apart is its exceptional extended rear-facing ability, allowing children to travel rear-facing up to around 6 or 7 years old.

Once your child is ready, it converts into a forward-facing seat and then a highback booster, giving it excellent longevity. Our reviewer was especially impressed by the roomy seat, comfortable materials and practicality of having both long-term rear-facing and 360° rotation.

If extended rear-facing is high on your wishlist, this is one of the most distinctive options in the category.

Britax Römer is known for robust, high-quality car seats, and the DualFix M i-Size is a strong example of that. Suitable from 3 months, it offers 360° swivel action and extended rear-facing up to around age 4.

Its bulk does make it better suited to staying in one car rather than being moved around regularly, but that same heft contributes to the ultra-sturdy feel. Safety features include high padded side wings, a 5-point harness, SICT side impact protection and a support leg to help reduce movement in a collision.

The seat also has an ADAC rating of 2.1, and Britax Römer’s Pivot Link ISOFIX system is designed to direct impact forces down into the vehicle seat and then forward.

Why should I buy a rotating car seat?

The main benefit of a rotating car seat is simple: it makes it easier and more comfortable to get your child in and out of the car. Instead of leaning awkwardly into the back seat to fasten the harness, you can swivel the seat towards the door and buckle them in from the side.

That makes rotating seats especially appealing if you do lots of short journeys, have a wriggly toddler, or suffer with back pain or mobility issues.

There’s also a safety and longevity benefit. Many 360° rotating car seats allow children to stay rear-facing for longer, often up to around 4 years old, and some even longer. In a collision, rear-facing offers greater protection to a child’s head, neck and spine, so many parents prefer to keep their little one rear-facing for as long as possible.

What age are swivel car seats best for?

Many rotating car seats can be used from birth, while others are designed from around 3 or 6 months. Some of the seats in our list last to around age 4, while others convert to highback boosters and can be used right up to 12 years old.

Newborn babies start in rear-facing infant car seats. These are sometimes called:

  • Group 0+ seats, grouped by your child’s weight for use from birth to 13kg (around 15 months), or
  • i-Size seats, which are grouped according to your child’s height under ECE R129 regulations

Under R129 regulations, babies must stay rear-facing until they are at least 15 months old. Many newer rotating seats go well beyond that minimum.

What to look for when choosing a 360 car seat

  • 180° or 360° rotation: A full 360° seat can usually be used rear- and forward-facing, while 180° models generally swivel for loading but only travel in one direction.
  • Ease of rotation: A stiff swivel can become frustrating quickly, so smooth one-handed rotation is worth looking for.
  • Rear-facing limits: If you want to keep your child rear-facing for longer, check the height and weight limits carefully.
  • Travel system compatibility: Many rotating seats have fixed bases and can’t be attached to a pushchair, though some infant seats can.
  • Weight and bulk: Rotating seats tend to be heavier and chunkier than standard seats, which matters if you move them between cars.
  • Whether the base is included: Some seats require a separate ISOFIX base, so always check the total bundle price before buying.
  • ISOFIX compatibility: Check that the seat and base are compatible with your car.

If your car doesn’t have ISOFIX points, you’ll need a model that can be fitted using the vehicle’s seatbelt. Fitted correctly, this is still safe, but there is more room for installation error, so it’s worth getting advice if needed.

Are rotating car seats worth the money?

Rotating car seats are not essential, and they do tend to be more expensive than basic car seats. The swivel base also adds weight and bulk. But for many parents, the added convenience makes a noticeable difference to daily life.

If you’re lifting your child in and out of the car several times a day, a good rotating seat can genuinely make journeys easier and more comfortable. In some cases, the higher upfront spend can also feel worthwhile if the seat lasts for several years.

Are 360 car seats safe?

Yes — provided the swivel function is only used when the car is stationary and the seat is fully locked into its travel position before you set off.

Some models lock into a side-facing position to make loading easier, but it’s important to rotate the seat back and ensure it is securely fixed before driving. As Sophie Steane, RAC shop spokesperson, says: “After rotation, the key point is to make sure that the seat is fully locked in the correct position before setting off.”

You should also only switch from rear-facing to forward-facing when your child meets the seat’s specific minimum age, height and weight requirements.
