Tomy is a company that’s been around for over 80 years and is best known for its toys and games. However it also makes monitors, slings, and feeding and changing accessories.

I tested the Tomy Freestyle 3-in-1 Booster Seat with my 1-year-old Jack and, in a nutshell, it made me extremely happy. I kept telling friends about it… who'd already got one!

The Tomy Freestyle 3-in-1 Booster Seat basically looks like a little changing bag (it does come with a changing mat, that acts as the cushion for the booster seat), but undo one zip and out pops a seat that can be attached to any chair with a back.

What we love

The Tomy Freestyle 3-in-1 Booster Seat is extremely simple and well thought out. It's very neat, compact and light, and is easy to carry. It's especially perfect when you're taking your baby to lunch with friends and family who don't have a spare highchair knocking about.

Jack and I took our new booster seat to Pizza Express and to various friends' houses and we couldn't find a chair that it didn't work with. Although if a chair is particularly low or a table too high, the booster isn’t height adjustable, so there were occasions where Jack was peering over the lip of the table mournfully during mealtimes.

It's made of a wipe clean plastic that isn't sticky or scratchy on little legs and it all clips together (harness and seat strap) with big, easy-to-clean buckles that can't be undone by little hands. There are little pouches at the side of the booster seat, which you could fit a bottle or two in when out and about, but it's more the booster’s usefulness in the those situations where a highchair isn't available that this product really shines.

What to watch out for

The Tomy Freestyle 3-in-1 Booster Seat isn’t really suitable for really small babies as there’s no support offered. Big strong belters like Jack couldn't be left unattended in this booster seat either, as they'd be trying to rock the chair backwards and forwards and could easily topple over.

Who is the Tomy Freestyle 3-in-1 Booster Seat best for?

Parents who don’t want the hassle of hoping for a highchair everywhere they go.

MadeForMums verdict

The Tomy Freestyle 3-in-1 Booster Seat is a lightweight, value for money booster seat that would be ideal for taking abroad. Compact and easy to carry, this product is well thought out and does its job wonderfully. Just don’t be tempted to leave your little one unattended in a booster seat – they could tip the chair over, if they’re big enough and like to rock!
