With nursery and our other regular activities closed for the summer, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to start potty training my 2-year-old. He was showing all the typical signs of readiness, so off we went to buy all the kit. As with any other milestone, I was excited about the prospect of him being out of nappies, but also a little apprehensive.

We looked at loads of potties, but the BEABA Ergonomic Potty caught my eye – its funky look and larger, sturdy design really outshone all the other gimmicky, character-themed models. My son liked it because it was black and white and reminded him of a cow! So, armed with our potty we went off in search of big boy pants…

What we love

The great thing about the BEABA Ergonomic Potty is that it looks nice, so I really wasn’t bothered about it being left around the house during the pre potty-training days when I wanted my son to get used to it before attempting to try it out. It comes in three vibrant colours: pink, blue and black and white. At £14 (RRP), it is a bit pricey, but I thought it was much better value than the potty-chair style ones.

The BEABA brand is all about functionality, safety, style and innovation and the Ergonomic Potty doesn’t fail to deliver. Any parent will tell you that potty-training is a messy business, so the best feature of the potty is that it’s ergonomically designed to suit the anatomy of both boys and girls (which means no spillages!). Its high backrest means that it’s really comfy and supportive too, so my son was happy to sit and ride his ‘cow’ while he did his business!

The potty’s anti-slip base keeps it firmly in place – perfect if you’ve got wooden floors. It’s really sturdy, so it won’t topple over if, your toddler, like mine, jumps up with excitement to show you what he’s done. It also features a removable pan section, with three grips, which makes emptying and cleaning a doddle, and it’s compact enough for my son to hold (with my help) and take to the toilet to flush it’s contents.

What to watch out for

The only downside to the BEABA Ergonomic Potty being so sturdy and slightly bigger than other potties is that it’s not suitable for taking out and about, so you’ll need to invest in something smaller when you’re on the go.

My only other criticism is that the product label is stuck to the bottom of the pan section of the potty. It’s hard to remove and leaves a sticky residue, which I didn’t realise until it was too late – not good! After a lot of scrubbing I did manage to get rid of it.

Who is the BEABA Ergonomic Potty best for?

Style-conscious parents who want an ergonomic and comfy potty for their tot’s bot.

MadeForMums verdict

Funky and functional the BEABA Ergonomic Potty is supportive for younger potty-trainers and big enough for older toddlers, but you’ll need a more portable option when you’re out and about.
