Suitable from birth and great for tall mums and dads, the Jané Energy is an umbrella-fold pushchair you can use every day.

I was really interested to try out the Jané Energy as I’ve never used a Jané pushchair before. I was very impressed with it and would definitely consider buying other Jané products in future.

The Jané Energy is suitable from birth, and as well as lying flat it has another four sitting positions. The footrest has two positions. The front swivel wheels are lockable and it comes with a hood and raincover. Evie, 16 months, seems very pleased with it and jumps straight in when it’s time to go out.

What we love

This is definitely the buggy for all tall parents out there – my husband is 6ft 7 and he loves the fact that the handles are higher than normal!

The Jané Energy has got a lovely big, deep seat – Evie is quite small but even she appreciates the extra room, and it will be great in winter when she’s wearing a snowsuit. The seat lies flat, and the hood poppers on underneath so it’s really snug and cosy.

The Energy has much bigger wheels than similar types of buggy from other manufacturers, and according to the specification there is built-in suspension. It certainly seems to be comfortable – when Evie’s tired she goes straight off to sleep in the Energy with no problem. You can recline the seat with one hand, which is great.

The Jané Energy is also really light, so it’s perfect for getting up and down kerbs and steps or in and out of shops, hoisting into the car, etc. It’s easy to steer and push, even on slightly rough ground. The seat is also higher up than normal, so you don’t feel that your child is down in the gutter.

Overall, the Jané Energy feels really robust and well made. Lots of people view umbrella-folding pushchairs as something to have for occasional use, or to keep in the car. But this one really is good enough quality for it to be your only pushchair. I’m hoping to have another baby soon, and a buggy that can take a newborn as well as a toddler will be really useful.

What to watch out for

As mentioned, lots of mums want a folding stroller to sling in the boot of the car, but be warned that the Jané Energy is quite big and long. It fits diagonally into my Ford Focus boot, but mums online with cars such as the Corsa or Audi A3 say that it doesn’t fit in theirs. So if it’s essential that you can easily fit it into the car, check the measurements before buying.

Some people also seem to have problems with the folding mechanism, finding that the locking clip folds in on itself, but mine doesn’t seem to do this. However, I do agree that it’s not very secure – mine is okay if I carry it by the special handle on the side, but if you try to pick it up by the pushing handles, the clip comes undone.

It’s hard to access the shopping basket when the seat is lying flat, which is a bit of a pain. I personally don’t find it particularly stylish, but lots of other mums love the bright colours and general cheeriness, so it’s probably just me!

Who is the Jané Energy best for?

Mums after a great, well-priced pushchair for daily use, and any parents with height!

MadeForMums verdict

The Jané Energy offers excellent value for money, good build quality and versatility. It’s comfy for your baby and you can recline the seat with one hand, too. Just watch out for the size - it’s bigger than you think, so double-check your boot measurements.
