Whats good to buy from there?
05/07/2013 at 21:05
We buy cereals, all tinned stuff (tomatoes, beans, soup, kidney beans etc), crisps, biscuits, cleaning stuff, wine, squash, kids yoghurts, butter, fruit, veg, frozen fish

Gin and vodka.
Rib eye steak.
What else do you need?

We buy their jam, peanut butter, breakfast cereals ( specifically their version of shreddies, cheerios, weetos and fruit and fibre), whole chicken, their cooked meats are great and so many to choose from - they have loads of different German hams, kid's yoghurts, cheddar cheese, oh their chocolate chip brioche are lovely and the kids love them, tortilla wraps, bagels, tinned tomatoes and beans, washing up liquid and bathroom cleaner
I tried their shampoo and conditioner a couple of months ago and it's great too. I get the one that looks like a herbal essence copy.
Oh and nappies too
If I wasn't pregnant I'd be buying their wine :-)

There is nothing I buy from there that is better from somewhere else.
Particularly good buys are their CAVA, chilli flavoured peanuts, nappies, makeup.
Even milk is cheaper, etc etc.

I don't NEED anything, but I would like to try some stuff to see if I can reduce our shopping bill!
What about BBQ meat? Salads? Wine?
Oh agree Aldi cereals are just like Kelloggs.

BBQ stuff they have loads of meat but dunno about salad. They have great breads and focaccia mmmm. Loads of cheap decent wine.

1stbaby do one months shop in there, you'll halve your bill.

I went last week for the first time. Stuff I wouldn't buy is toilet roll and crisps. Tuna is good, salad ok, fruit is crap, bread is crap, washing up liquid ok, kids biscuits and cereal ok.

What a month in one shop? Or try it for a month?
Only reason I wouldnt is I like to get my shopping delivered!

We get our bread from Aldi and it's Hovis, just cheaper than Asda sell Hovis for
We buy their salad bags, cucumber and cherry tomatoes and it's all fine. Although if I'm in Asda getting anything I'll get cucumber there cos it's only 50p and my kids eat loads of it so I stock up lol

Maybe it depends on the actual shop because we buy fruit and veg by the bucket load from Aldi and it's fab! Admittedly their own bread isn't brill, but their bloomers and pricier bread is good (still cheaper that Tesco)

Im going to try it tomorrow! I will report back x
I did a weekly shop there, it came to £52 and that included the vodka and gin. The only thing I didn't really like were the tortilla chips, everything else was just as good if not better than what I'd usually buy.
As I'm car-less at the moment so I can't get there because they don't deliver. I tried www.mysupermarket.co.uk instead, Asda were the cheapest on that.

I really rated their meat, chicken, fruit and veg. Also bought jam and cereal and some other bits. I also got some good 'character' vests and colouring books for the kids.

Nappies and wipes are great
We buy the pain au chocolate/rolls/breakfast pastries

Cold meats/continental cheeses

Snow White - have you tried their crisps or you just don't fancy them? Only asking because their big multi packs of snackrite crisps are honestly just as nice as Walkers (obviously in my opinion but I do love crisps so know my stuff lol)
06/07/2013 at 07:36
Oh and I personally don't rate Asda at all for groceries (I love their kid's clothes) I have always had bad experiences with their meat and don't particularly like their fruit/veg.
06/07/2013 at 08:37
MossyE yes I bought a six pack of them last week and didn't rate them, no where near as nice as walkers imo. Another thing I would rate is the squash, I found the orange nicer than asda. Stuff for Es packed lunch was good - ham, cheese strings, mini cheddar, snack packs of grapes. I didn't actually buy the fruit there as it was more expensive than asda, a punnet of nectarines was about £1.70 compared to £1 in asda and the bananas were also more expensive.
