Yesterday afternoon, I noticed probably a dessert spoon sized brown blood when I went to the toilet. There was a bit left as I wiped, but nothing significant. Seeing as we had the terrible news last week that my cousin lost her baby at 28 weeks, I phoned the ward and was told to go in for observation. They put me on the monitor and all was fine, baby kicking up a storm. Doctor checked my cervix and said all was fine and the bleeding was probably just hormonal changes to the surface of the cervix.
Since then, I've just had teeny weeny amounts of brown when I wipe, no pain or anything. We're due to go away to Ireland tomorrow until Monday and my mum is going on at me to cancel. I phoned the midwife just to shut my mum up and she said it was ultimately my responsibility to decide, but to just take my notes and make sure I go into hospital if there's any further bleeding.
Does anyone have any personal experience of similar bleeding in 3rd tri?

Aww bless you lovely. I've not had any recently. I know that piratewife has had bleeding pretty much weekly or so, not sure if she's still getting it? Maybe put a shout out for her here or on fb?
Personally if youve been checked out and all have said its fine then I would continue with your plans. Unfortunately the MW isnt going to tell you to go as that would leave her open to all sorts.

in my second pregnancy I had a few small bleeds at around 30 weeks onwards, they found no reason for it and all was fine. In my third pregnancy I had a tiny bleed/spotting late on at about 38 weeks which I was told was probably things gearing up for labour. I'd still go away if you feel up to it but definitely take your notes and make sure you know where the closest hospital is just to be safe. If you don't feel up to it and would feel better at home then cancel and stay home and rest! xxx

Thanks both. I definitely want to go, it's my mum who's a bit more concerned. Luckily (or perhaps not!) they are actually coming with us, so she'll be able to see I'm not overdoing it. We're in Dublin city centre, so shouldn't be too far from a hospital at any time.

Hi Knees, how stressful especially considering your family news recently. As PC said, I've had regular spotting throughout this pregnancy but it's actually not happened for about 4 weeks now (so nothing in 3rd tri). I think mine is as your MW says - cervical bleeding which isn't anything to worry about. If it's brown, it suggests that it's old blood. I would usually get tiny amounts for a couple of days after the main episode, which I think it just small residual bits making their way down. Hopefully yours will stop soon and not return.
I think if you feel up to it (and it sounds like you are) it'd be okay to go to Ireland, but I'd take your notes and look up the nearest maternity unit beforehand.

THanks PW - I hadn't thought to make a note of the nearest maternity unit so i'll save the details in my phone just in case.
