    hi all,
im on day 33 of 32/37 and i was jus wondering how accurate the first response pregnancy tests are?
i want to test but i know i will be heartbroken if its bfn and i would rather wait until i was a few days late as i would feel more positive, however i dont think i can wait much longer- the days jus seem to be draggin now. xxx :\)

my first preg test was a cheap one from tesco and i had a feint line on the day my period was due. You can have false negatives but false positives don't happen very often.

If you do decide to test earlier i would wait for the first urine of the day then you will have the most concentrated sample for HCG.

Doesn't it tell you on the leaflet the percentage of people that it does work for before your period is due. (think it's about 60%)

    good luck

I would say wait until you are a wee bit over you date- I spent a fortune on pregnancy tests!!!

I bought the ones that say you can test four days early and used about six of them which all said negative. My oh kept telling me to quit buying them coz it was a total waste of money!! I bought one more but kept it for a few days and FINALLY it showed posative (about ??30 later lol)

I am so impatient so I know its a pain to be told to wait!!

I got a positive with clear blue digitial 3 days before P was due, but no other test showed positive ( i couldn't beleive it, so kept testing) It was well over a week before another brand gave me a positive! But trust me, try and wait, I am ??50 poorer from the experience!!

I got a strong positive on first response a whole day before it showed weakly on clearblue but most of the folks here speak highly of clearblue so perhaps try both. I'll never forget those beautiful pink lines!
    Good luck x

I used first response tests roughly 4 days before my period was due and they both came back positive but faintly so. Did a regular test a day or two later and that was negative so did a clearblue and that came back positive. Then did another regular test a couple of days later and it came back positive. Had to believe it then!

I always buy the 2 packs as I know I won't believe the answer if it's yes and I have a back-up test in case answer is no but period doesn't come. I know I would have spent a fortune whether I tested early or not cos I didn't believe what I was seeing!

If you know your cycle quite well then I'd try first response or clearblue a few days before and test first thing in morning. Good luck.

I used 2 first repsonse tests which were faint lines, then a cheap Tesco one which was also faint then bought the digital clearblue with words which flashed PREGNANT so there was no doubt I was 4 days away from af. Good luck Lisa 36+1weeks

both first response tests i took were negative...but all clearblue (lines not digital) were positive. Took at similar time. AM now 27 weeks pregnant. I would wait as I too spent about ??70 on loads of tests!!! Mind you was worth it. Would only splash out if you get some positives.

    Hi every1,
thanx for all the replies, jus an update- i took a clearblue test y-day and it was bfn, however i didnt take it first thing in the morning and it was only day 34, so if af doesnt arrive by tues (37 days) i will take another test, im really hopin it was a false negative. I normally get really sore boobs about a week b4 af arrives but this month ive had nothing like that and with my first pregnancy i got really bad stomach ache which felt like trapped wind mixed with really bad hungar pains and ive been suffering with this for the last 2days, and was wondering if the could be connected or jus a coincedence? jus keepin my fingers crossed af stays away! xxx

    Hi mjmx,

I am in the same position as you. Af due tomorrow or Tuesday. I had brown discharge on Friday(tmi) and still getting a little now, could this be implantation? Anyway did a first response yday bfn. So I am also waiting untill Tuesday to do another test.I also have the dull ache in my stomach, not cramps like when af is coming, I had this in my other pregnancies too.

Any how good luck and hope you get your bfp soon.

    Hi Kerry,
its such a pain isnt it not knowing, its all i can think about at the moment. i think that if it showed a bfn then i would rather it b a definite answer as im still none the wiser! then i can jus carry on and concentrate on next month.
i dont think i can wait until tues/wed but i know if i do another test b4 then and its bfn i will get really down.
mayb it was implantation for u which sounds positive but i know what u mean about the stomach aches- they arnt period pains, jus a really uncomfortable ache quite low down not overly painful jus uncomfortable- im hopin this is a good sign, but dont want to get my hopes up.
well good luck to u and keep us posted.

    Hi girls,
