Hi everyone, i suffered very badly in my first pregnancy from this. I was on a drip for the whole five months of the pregnancy. I couldn't keep solids or luids down. I weighed 9stone 10 when i fell pregnant, by the time i left hospital i was 6stone. Unfortunatley i lost my first baby, my liver was failing and my kidneys, it was the worst experience i have ever gone through. I had sever depression after leaving hospital, my body still felt pregnant but there was nothing there, it was horrific. .... i am expecting once again, this time i have prepared myself for getting hyperemesis as much as i can, ie ive put on some more weight, eating very healthily, however i have heard i have a 99% chance of this coming back again. At the moment i am 4 weeks, so very early and im already queasy, Has anyone been through this?

I have just spent quite a bit of money on sea bands and preggi pops, praying they will work . I hope that everything goes okay, the doctor had told me to increase my weaight 11 pounds from when i was last pregnant to make sure if i do become ill i can fight it. Thanks for the support hun x

Hey karen thanks for the advice. i am seing my doctor tomorrow, to be honest though i am a bit scared of taking anti sickness drugs again as last ime they didnt work and made me worry more about the effects they could have had on the unborn child. Im in a funny situation because if it does happen again as severe then i still don't know if i could start the drugs again. I have heard so man terrifying stories about the effects they cause. I trully hope i manage this pregnancy, im a little older and yes i am wiser to the symptoms, i spent a month in bed constantly being sick before i even went to a doctor as my mother said it was morning sickness, she didnt approve of the pregnancy back then so it just made things a lot worse.
I totally agree with you about the sickness disappering though,i was drinking some oasis- being sick, as soon as 'it ended' i swallowed some and it didnt come back!.i had to go through labour with the first pregnancy, within a few seconds the sickness disappeared. But, i didnt have a baby at the end of it and that was traumatic.

Im 22 weeks pregnant and have never suffered a sicky moment...and you know what. I wish I had because SO many women do and I havent experienced that...but while im totally at one end of the scale, ZERO sickness, you have taken it all and gone to 100% sickness! its funny how we are all so different!

hmm, not very helpful corrinne!
sohpie, i suffered from severe HG in both pregnancies, my second being far worse. I was throwing up literally with every breath i took. I couldnt even swallow my own saliva without retching. I was so malnorished my hair began to fall out and my skin peel off. I didnt move out of bed for three months except to be taken into hospital for rehydration every few days. I couldnt bath, wash my hair, brush my teeth, read a book, watch tv. EVERYTHING made me spin out. The smell of my husband and son was revolting so i couldnt have them near me. It was the worse time of my life. I eventually got given ondansetron (zofran) which is only prescribed in very severe cases, but if you feel like other anti-emetics arent working you must push for this drug (it's very expensive so theyre not overly keen on prescribing it easily). It saved my life (and my pregnancy) as i was finally able to keep down some food and drink although i had numerous other problems with bowel and kidney function after as they had effectively stopped working.
Its a truely horrendous illness and one that is so misunderstood. If one more person told me to eat a digestive biscuit or try sicksickness bands i think i would have committed murder.

Well said Connie. We don't want to hear about anyone who has been well (haha). Try having a sick bug for 8 months and then you'll know how it feels.
I am with you on the digestive biscuit thing. Everyone kept advising me to eat ginger biscuits, and to this day I can't eat those horrible things as the smell of them still makes me feel ill (I can't wear perfume either and am sensitive to strong smells still). The bands however did work for me but in the beginning and latter stages, though I wasn't half as bad as you both. I took cyclizine which seemed to work for me (I remember running out once and thinking I was going to die if I didn't get another one very soon). You are right I swore I wouldn't get pregnant again but things change and your mind blocks it all out and away you go again! I have 2 friends who had hyperemesis with their first ones who didn't get it half as badly the second time so fingers crossed for Sophie (and me for next time!). I have to say going to hospital was such a relief as it meant you didn't have to eat or drink anymore and could just let the drip do the work. And yes my partner smelt horrible but it's sooo hard telling them that !!

Hi - I am 22+6 and had hyperemesis up to around 20 weeks. It truly is awful and debilitating and you have all my sympathies! I was in hospital for around 10 days hooked up to a drip which didnt really help (apart from re-hydrating me) and the anti nausea drugs (cyclizine) were also of no use! The only thing I can say is keep drinking and eating even if you know you are going to throw it up because at least you are getting some fluids! The only thing which did help me was eating ice lollies as the didnt hit my stomach and then instantly want to re-appear! I did also try other drugs from the doctors - pro-methazine which is not one widely used but it did stop me vomiting a bit but did make me feel hung over and still feeling like I was going to be sick.
Hope this helps a bit!
