Hello ladies and bumps, wonder if you can help me with this one as can't get hold of MW (grrrr!). I had a road traffic accident back in April last year and I injured both my knees. Have been to see a Dr for a medical and he wants me to go for an MRI scan? He is aware that I am pregnant but still insists its ok. I've spoken to my solicitor and she doesn't feel comfortable me going for one and I was under the impression they were a no go during pregnancy? Anyone know anything about this? I don't want it to pro-long my claim as to be honest as am in need of the money from the claim!

Hi my love, when i was in last week the lady in the room next to me was having problems with her chest, and was waiting for an MRI, so i would think it must be ok! but you could try calling the x ray dept at the hospital, tell them you've been referred for MRI but are pregnant, and they should tell you whether they will be able to do it or not xx

Ummm tricky one, I had an MRI scan in august and had to sign a disclaimer to say I wasnt pregnant, I was even given a pregnancy test.

Mine was for abdomon so maybe a knee wont be so bad............I had the dye injected into me, maybe this is one of the problems? it is an electric field that pulsates through you? I really dont know - try googling it or calling NHS direct x

MRI doesn't use radiation as other imaging such as CT or ordinary x-rays does. If you speak to the department I'm sure they are used to dealing with pregnant women and so can offer you more advice. Let us know what they say

Hi there, my partner works in a hospital and says pregnant ladies are fine to go for an MRI scan as it uses magnetic forces to create an image of inside your body rather than radiation that would be used in a CT scan. MRI stands for MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING which is perfectly safe in pregnancy!

    Hi,

I had a MRI scan on my head 2 weeks ago as I have a pituitary tumor, I was assured by my doctor everything would be fine and it was. The only thing I couldn't have was the dye injection which shows everything up (I'm unsure what that is called).

Was it the gadolinium injection you had ellisjamie because I have had a few MRI's recently, all of them with gadolinium and I was the same as akaLadyK they asked me about a million times if there was any chance of me being pregnant and made me sign a disclaimer so maybe its just the dye thats harmful. Mine were on my head too so my stomach was barely inside the machine.

Baybooboo -They never said to me the name of the injection the first time, they just said they would inject me with a die to make things more clearer on the scan pictures. This time because I was pregnant they didn't give it to me.

Hi iv had an MRI on my head in both my pregnancies due to a tumor on my pituitary gland and my consultant said its perfectly safe but have to be past 12 weeks to be on the safe side and only one MRI during the whole pregnancy.  im sure you will be fine but don't by shy on speaking to your hospital on their policies of MRI during pregnancy they are there to help a senior radiographer would be able to help as well.  I've never had dye injected for an MRI though they only do this if they really can't see what they need to i wouldn't personally have this done.  Hope this helps x
