I am looking at newborn clothes and I am stumped as to what size i should be getting! In Next the first sizes are up to 7.8lb, and the first month sizes are up to 10lbs.
L was 7.9lb so I reckon this one will match it or be bigger so i am tempted to the first month size, so was generally pondering......
Are second babies generally bigger thanthe first? x

I've been led to believe it's true and it was for mine - #1 was 8lb 1oz at 40+1, #2 was 8lb 9oz at 39+5. I'm expecting at least 8lb this time, although possibly not bigger than #2 if it is a girl.

I'm hoping as this one is a girl it'll be the same if not smaller than my 9lb boy. Generally it is true 2nd babies are a bit bigger though.
Newborn clothes do seen ridiculously tiny when I look at them now!

O was 6lb 11oz at birth and L was 7lb 10oz.

Both my babies fitted in newborn clothes for at least a fortnight though despite their size, as they were both all scrunched up for a few weeks before they stretched out.

My 2nd was bigger. First was 9lb 6 and +10 and 2nd was 9lb 13 at +5

My second was my biggest but my first was prem so can't really compare! I packed the upto 10lb size but I had a pack of the smaller ones at home in case I needed them. I took them back with Tate but dh bought them in for me with Rafferty as he was under 7lb.

My porker just about fit into newborn stuff. The Next up to 1m things were a perfect fit on her and what I have gone for this time.

1st was 5lb6, 2nd 7lb5. Growth problems with first though

I don't have a no.2 but based on my sister's experience her 2nd was bigger, my sil's was a bit smaller but delivered at 39 weeks compared to 42 weeks with her first.

2nd was bigger by 15 oz. Not a lot really considering my 1st was meant to be a small baby and my 2nd a large one. S is a porker now though and as big as her sister was when she was 1!

My second was smaller (7.7 vs 7.12) - both wore newborn (up to 10lb) for the first few weeks but they did look a bit drowned at first!

First boy was 8lb 9 then second boy was 9lb 2 but then girl came along and beat both her brothers at 9lb 4 so definitely true here

Hmmm, the answers so far don't really back up by 'girls are smaller' theory, do they.

I really wish i hadn't read this thread now given that my 1st was a 9lb10 girl !!
10/05/2013 at 14:52
I'm fairly certain this one is going to be somewhat bigger than S given he was 4lb3 and this was twice that about 6 weeks ago!

My 1st was 8lb 1oz and 2nd was 7lb 11oz but I think this is partly due to my 1st was born 10 days late & 2nd was 4 days early.

My first was 5lb 10oz and 40+8 and my second was 5lb 12oz at 40+0, both girls. We are wondering if we'll get another sub 6lber this time!
