Unless you’re a fan of The Biggest Loser, you might not know the name Jillian Michaels.

But the American fitness coach has sparked a bit of a debate amongst her 892,000 Instagram followers after revealing she let her 4-year-old son get his ears pierced.

42-year-old Jillian and her fiancé Heidi Rhoades, 31, allowed Phoenix to try out the new look after his older sister, 6-year-old Lukensia, got hers done.

Alongside this adorable snap of her son - earring on full display - Jillian revealed:

More like this

“The little man works on his selfie skills. And yes, he got his ears pierced. His sister got hers pierced and he wanted his done. I wasn’t about to say ‘that’s for girls.’”

She also wrote to one fan that her son wasn’t just inspired by his older sis, but also by some of the male role models in his life.

“In all honesty, his karate teacher and my brother had it done so to him it's something the cool guys do.”

Well, that definitely makes sense!

While she was mostly met with support and understanding from her loyal fanbase, there were a couple of commenters who didn’t take the decision lightly - mostly due to Phoenix’s age.

“I think it was wrong... he is a young boy… when he is older that should be his decision if his parents agree with it..sorry..” one wrote.

But Jillian’s response is pretty solid, it has to be said: “I figure if he ever doesn't like them he takes them out and the holes close,” she wrote to one commenter.

A very valid point.

Loads of mums took to the comments to praise Heidi and Jillian’s decision - even admitting their own young sons had also asked to have their ears pierced.

And fortunately, everyone commenting on the pic was totally on board with the idea of a little boy getting his ears pierced - which is something we’re definitely pleased to see. Because why not, right?

What do you think?

Would you let your 4 year-old get your ears pierced if they asked? We’d love your take on Facebook and Twitter
