We’ve analysed the pushchair market and tested a wide range of models to find the best options for different families, homes and routines. Whether you’re looking for a compact pushchair for public transport, a sturdy model for mixed terrain walks or a future-proof single-to-double design, you’ll find it here.

Best prams and pushchairs at a glance – for all budgets

How did we choose these pushchairs?

We’ve selected these pushchairs based on our independent reviews, testing carried out during the MadeForMums Awards, and feedback from our home testing panel and Top Testers Club. When we test prams and pushchairs, we look at comfort for baby, ease of folding, push and manoeuvrability, storage, suspension, portability, value for money and how well each model works in real family life.

This is not a ranked list. Instead, each pushchair here is one we rate highly for a different need, whether that’s travel, mixed terrain, storage, futureproofing or everyday newborn comfort.

Here’s our pick of the best prams and pushchairs for your newborn baby in 2026

Cybex Balios S Lux, £729.90 (including carrycot)

Best for: An all-round travel system pushchair for newborns

Cybex Balios S Lux

Why we chose it: The Balios S Lux is one of the most convincing all-rounders here, blending a lie-flat seat, optional overnight-sleep carrycot, good suspension and an easy one-hand fold into a package that feels premium without being as expensive as some rivals.

This is the product for city parents who want their pram to not only look good but also handle well and last for years. It’s a really brilliant pushchair overall. For me, its best attribute is the suspension which makes for a really smooth ride for baby across London’s wonky pavements and kerbs.
MFM reviewer Francesca

What we like

  • Comfortable on a range of terrain
  • One-hand fold
  • Lie-flat seat can be used from birth
  • Carrycot is suitable for overnight sleep

What to keep in mind

  • Carrycot release can be a little tricky
  • Basket feels flimsier than the rest of the pushchair

The Balios S Lux looks and feels more expensive than its price tag suggests, and that’s a big part of its appeal. It’s easy to steer, handles different surfaces well and has a practical, newborn-friendly setup whether you choose the Cot S Lux or use the lie-flat seat. That makes it a strong option for first-time parents who want a versatile everyday pram without going right to the top end of the market.

Graco Near2Me DLX, £400 (with carrycot and car seat)

Best for: Adjustable seat height

Graco Near2Me Tester picture and product shot

Why we chose it: The Near2Me offers a genuinely distinctive feature at a very competitive price: a seat, carrycot or car seat that can be raised up the chassis to bring baby closer to you.

I think the Graco Near2Me is a brilliant pushchair that fulfils everything it promises. It is a great idea to produce a product that allows you to be closer to your baby during walks, which are so important for parent’s mental health and for baby’s awareness of the world. This pushchair means that you can explore together, keeping your baby comfortable and close to you, allowing you to share smiles and interaction during your adventures.

The Near2Me is one of the more budget-friendly options in this list, but it doesn’t feel like a stripped-back choice. It’s well made, easy to use and especially handy if closeness and eye contact matter to you in those early months. It’s not the neatest fold, but as an affordable newborn setup with a useful travel-system bundle, it still earns its place.

Bugaboo Dragonfly, £945 (including carrycot)

Best for: Suburban families

Bugaboo Dragonfly tester picture and product shot

Why we chose it: The Dragonfly neatly bridges the gap between a compact urban pushchair and a more substantial everyday newborn pram, with the big bonus that it folds with the carrycot attached.

For those who prioritise style, comfort and sustainability, the Bugaboo Dragonfly is a smart choice. I would say this is best placed in a city home with more space or for those who often venture in suburban areas.

The City Tour 2 Eco is a compact, lightweight pushchair that works well for everyday life in towns and suburbs, while still offering a proper newborn setup with the optional carrycot. It handled pavements, shops and nursery runs easily in testing, with a smooth one-hand fold that makes storage simple.

The carrycot provided a cosy space for a newborn and the seat unit offered good comfort for toddlers too, although limited suspension and a smaller basket mean it’s less suited to rough terrain or heavier shopping days. The recycled fabrics feel soft and premium, making this a smart choice if you want a lighter pushchair with more sustainable materials.

iCandy Peach 7, £1249 (including carrycot)

Best for: Premium pushchair to grow with your family

iCandy Peach 7 with tester and reviewer Cher, next to iCandy Peach 7 shown in double mode and with seat unit on next to carrycot

Why we chose it: The Peach 7 remains one of the smartest choices if you want a premium pushchair that can start as a single and later convert into a double, and even carry a third child with its integrated buggy board.

I love how easy the pram can be converted into double or twin mode, and how easy it is to fold and unfold. The integrated ride-on board is a gamechanger for me, and I don't think I could go back to using a separate, detachable buggy board again. Ultimately, it's a sturdy stylish and smooth-to-push buggy that's particularly good for parents with more than one child, and for those looking for a pram that will grow with their family.

Are all pushchairs suitable for a newborn baby?

No. Babies need to lie in a flat position for at least the first 6 months. Although many newborn prams and pushchairs have recline settings, some do not lie flat enough and so are only suitable from 6 months.

“Lying flat helps to protect your baby’s back, development and breathing,” says buggy expert Charlotte Gelstharp from Natural Baby Shower, a leading online retailer for pushchairs.

Some newborn prams create a lie-flat position with a carrycot or cocoon. Others have a seat that reclines to a flat position. With this in mind, we’ve chosen some that come with a carrycot included or with the option to buy one separately.

It’s good to know that lie-flat doesn’t have to mean completely flat according to standards that assess whether a pram is suitable from birth. The definition of lie-flat is at least 150° rather than 180° that is truly flat. This means that the base could actually cause your baby’s head to be raised by up to 30°.

Given the scientific evidence behind keeping your newborn baby lying flat in a pushchair, we’d strongly recommend only using a completely lie-flat base for regular use – either via a carrycot or a 180° flat recline.

Do I need to buy a carrycot?

Carrycots offer a lot of benefits when you have a newborn. Most are parent-facing so you can keep an eye on your baby during their first few months. Charlotte explains, “They are also seen as offering your little one that extra touch of comfort and luxury with those added extras such as more space, a padded mattress, extra ventilation and larger canopy hood.”

“Some parents also love the option of being able to remove the carrycot from the pushchair without disturbing your baby.” Also, a carrycot can provide a portable sleep space to meet Safe Sleep guidelines, which advise having your baby sleep in the same room as you, night and day.

One other element worth thinking about is whether the carrycot is suitable for overnight sleeping. This can replace the need for a travel cot in the first 6 months, saving you money as well as space when travelling.

Of course, a carrycot can come at an extra cost – prices vary from around £100 to more than £250. And once your baby has grown out of it, you’ll need room at home to store it unless it folds flat.

What else should I look out for when buying a newborn pushchair?

Folding and unfolding – Every pushchair has its own fold, and most become straightforward once you get the knack. Think about whether it folds with the seat attached, how compact it is, whether it can be folded one-handed and whether it self-stands once collapsed.

Basket size and access – Babies come with a lot of kit, so don’t just look at the basket capacity. Check how easy it is to reach when the carrycot is on too, as some shapes are more awkward than others.

Wheels and tyres – Bigger wheels usually cope better with rough ground. Air-filled tyres can be brilliant off-road but can puncture, which is why many brands now use puncture-proof or foam-filled wheels instead.

Single-to-double options – If you’re hoping to grow your family soon, a convertible pushchair can be a savvy investment. The trade-off is that these models are usually larger and heavier.

Weight – If you use public transport regularly or will be lifting your buggy into the boot often, check the weight carefully – ideally both with and without the carrycot attached.

See more guidance on buying a newborn pram or pushchair, including what a travel system is, when you should buy one, and how much you should expect to spend, below.

What's a travel system?

A travel system is simply a pushchair with a car seat attached. Some 63% of the more than 600 parents we surveyed opted to buy a travel system, with 24% choosing just a newborn pushchair. If you plan on using a car seat regularly, travel systems can give you a lot of flexibility and convenience.

The main benefit of a travel system is that it enables you to move a sleeping baby from the car onto the pushchair frame easily. However, you should only use your travel system for short journeys if your baby is in an upright car seat – the 2 hour rule still applies.

Most pushchairs can be transformed into travel systems, but not all. Some come as a travel system bundle; with others you buy the components separately. Some car seats, particularly those from Maxi-Cosi, Cybex and BeSafe, fit many different brands of pushchairs. Check compatibility in our reviews or on manufacturers’ websites.

We always recommend making sure the car seat will fit your car before choosing a travel system or pushchair.

When should I buy a pushchair?

In our survey, 61% said they bought their buggy between their 20-week scan and the early weeks of the third trimester, with another 19% buying a few weeks before their due date.

There’s no right time to buy, as long as you’ve done enough research to find a pushchair that suits your family life and your budget. It’s always worth narrowing down your options early so you can keep an eye out for sales and discounts.

How much does a pram for a newborn cost?

Prices of pushchairs for newborn babies can range from a couple of hundred pounds to more than a thousand. We’ve included prams here that cater for a variety of budgets and needs.

Remember to check what you get with the advertised price – there may be accessories that aren’t included, such as car seat adaptors, raincover and footmuff. Where necessary, we’ve clearly stated when the carrycot cost needs to be added to make the pushchair suitable from birth.

One way to save money is to look for bundles, where a retailer or manufacturer includes extras within the price.
