There was a time when most lightweight strollers couldn't be used from birth as they didn't enable a baby to lie flat or come with carrycots.

That traditionally meant that lightweight pushchairs were never the first choice of buggy for parents of newborn, as most were only suitable from 6 months up.

But that's all changed! The last year has seen a whole host of brand new lightweight buggies with infant carrycots or cocoons, so great to use with a small baby. And, what's even better, most are travel system compatible too!

They are still a little heavier than our very best lightweights, but still all under 9kg, meaning they could be the only buggy you’ll need to buy.

Here are the best lightweight pushchairs suitable from birth...

1. Mountain Buggy Nano, £249 (carrycot additional £49) total - £298

  • Age suitable for: Birth to 15kg
  • Weight: 7.3kg
  • Travel system compatible: Yes

This ultra-compact light stroller is perfect for newborns when used with the Mountain Buggy Cocoon.

Very easy-to-fold, the Nano actually has a decent-sized basket that will fit at least one packed nappy bag.

And when tested our MFM reviewer said it: “decreased my stress levels on the train and meant I would literally have room for an extra suitcase in the car on our next holiday.”

A game changer as far as lightweight buggies are concerned, the Babyzen Yoyo was the first stroller certified to fit in an aeroplane overhead locker and it’s been an instant hit since then.

One of the most maneuverable, compact and easy-to-use buggies you can get the Yoy0+ is ideal from birth when used with the Babyzen cocoon.

It’s also travel system compatible and can also be used with the Babyzen ride-on board, for older toddlers.

Cybex has a couple of lightweight strollers in its collection already, one in to form of the Mios, listed above. However, the brand is launching a couple of new light, super small strollers, the Eezy S and the Eezy S Twist.

We’ve picked the Eezy S Twist to join this list as it’s suitable from birth to 17kg and is very compact when folded. But it’s the seat unit that really makes this stroller stand out, as it has a 360-degree rotation, so babies can face parents or the world in one simple, quick twist.
