The success of the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, dubbed ‘mummy porn’, is expected to contribute to a baby boom in nine months time.
Experts say the best-selling novels, the first of which has sold 10 million copies worldwide, could be responsible for a rise in the number of newborns in Britain next year, reports the Daily Mail.
Professor Ellis Cashmore, expert in Culture at Staffordshire University, said, “with the millions of copies sold – it makes complete sense to assume that in nine months time we are going to see a baby boom.”
“It’s not a difficult equation: more sex equals more pregnancies, which equals more babies,” he added.
The trilogy of erotic books by EL James have become such a phenomenon that it seems every woman is talking about them. The first novel, Fifty Shades of Grey, has been such a roaring success it has overtaken Harry Potter and The Da Vinci Code.
Author EL James has reportedly said that the success of the books is because they offer women a “holiday from their husbands”. The predicted baby boom seems to suggest otherwise, however, if 50 Shades is inspiring couples to get frisky in the bedroom.
We’re wondering will there also be a flurry of babies named after the charismatic billionaire Christian or the leading lady Anna.
