  • Cheap pushchairs that are sure to meet any budget

Ultra lightweight and compact buggies can be the perfect solution for holidays, day trips or for older toddlers who occasionally need a place to sit when their legs get tired.

This is one of the times when you don't necessarily want to blow your budget. The good news is there are plenty of cheap, basic strollers on the market. And they don’t come cheaper than the ones in this list, which are all under £50.

While the pushchairs may not have the same frills or celeb association as some of the mid to high-end buggies on the market or the robustness of the more premium lightweights, they do offer fantastic value for money plus quality, reliability and performance.

Many are designed for use from 6 months, while some can even be used from birth.  Find out why your baby needs a lie-flat buggy from birth.

However, if you’re looking for a little more luxury, check out our 10 of the best buggies under £150.

And finally, don't miss our 10 of the best budget baby buys and Mums' top tips to having a baby on a budget.

  • Chicco Echo, £48 - suitable from birth

If there is one thing baby manufacturer Chicco does well, it's affordable, lightweight pushchairs.

The Echo is one of the brand’s cheapest models but it doesn’t scrimp on quality as it comes with an embroidered seat unit, 5-point harness, shoulder straps, summer and winter hood and raincover.

The seat unit on the Echo can recline into a lie-flat position, making it suitable from birth and it's ideal as a second stroller.

It also comes in a double version, the Echo Twin, which our reviewer gave 4 out of 5 stars as it is "lighter than it looks and surprisingly sturdy too."

You can buy the Chicco Echo from Kiddicare, Boots, Toys R Us and Argos

  • Red Kite Push Me Lite, £20 - suitable from 6 months

At the lower-end of the baby product market, Red Kite Push Me Lite costs a very modest £20.

Saying that, the price does not reflect the quality of the product which was given 3.5 stars out of 5 by our MFM reviewer for its compact fold, lightweight and manoeuvrability.

However it is a very basic pushchair; there's no headrest, only one seating position and no accessories.

  • Tesco Basic Stroller, £24.50 - suitable from 6 months

You might not think about going to Tesco for your buggy, but the supermarket giant does its own version of a no-frills, thrifty stroller for a very cheap £17.50.

It comes complete with everything you would expect from a basic pushchair (which is not much): a 5-point harness, umbrella fold, a basket and footrest.

But it is not ideal if your little one falls asleep as, like the Red Kite Push Me Lite, it doesn’t have a headrest and only has one seating position.
