Aussie blogger The Young Mummy is talking about labour – more specifically, what she did to induce it.

26-year-old Sophie Cachia took to her popular blog to describe her birthing experience with her 2nd child, daughter Florence.

And in her post, she wasn’t afraid to get verrrry candid about everything she did to help speed things up.

She was 41 weeks pregnant and scheduled for an induction days away, when she decided to give an hour-long bath of clary sage oil a go AND ate an entire pineapple, despite the fact it was burning her mouth.

But that wasn’t all…

More like this

“And now for the part some of you will find highly uncomfortable,” she continued.

“Which we kind of did at the time. But when you’re an overdue sweaty walrus and you need this baby to come out, you do what you gotta do.

“And when you’re the husband of this highly hormonal overdue sweaty walrus, you do what you’re told.”

It was time to try sex ???

It’s well-known that sex is considered one of the many ways to induce labour – but Sophie took her research to the next level.

She’d read that it was actually the semen, not the sex itself, and how it ‘softens the cervix’ that helps move baby along.

So, heavily pregnant and not in the mood, Sophie decided getting down to business with husband Jaryd the old-fashioned way wasn’t on the cards…

“I instructed Jaryd to go into the bathroom for some alone time with himself and his… hand.

“They say that sex brings on a baby, when in fact I learnt it’s actually the semen itself that can have an impact.

"Additionally, the hormone that causes contractions is oxytocin, which is the same hormone that is released during orgasm.

“Let’s be brutally honest, there was more chance of me farting and shooting the baby out pain-free than there was of me having an orgasm this heavily pregnant, so his swimmers were going to have to do!

“Sex was literally the last thing on my mind, so as I got in position on hands and knees, whilst eating an apple and watching Suits, Jaryd came from behind and did what he needed to do. Literally.”

Funnily enough, just a few hours later in the evening, Sophie started experiencing “light” contractions that continued through 'til morning.

And not long after, she gave birth to baby Florence, who is now a healthy and happy 7-month-old ?

Now, we’ve heard of every trick in the book – from essential oils and spicy foods to magic salads and membrane sweeps.

But Sophie’s, erm, functional approach to bringing on labour is a new one even for us ?

Have your say

Did you try anything to induce labour? Perhaps your story’s not so dissimilar to Sophie’s?

We’d love to hear your thoughts on the MFM forum, in the comments or over on Facebook
