Best new toys announced at the Toy Fair

Although you might still be recovering from the Christmas toy overload, this is the time of year that toy experts start making their predictions on what cool gadgets and gizmos will be at the top of your children's toy wish list. And we have the 34 hot items that've been awarded 'Best New Toy' at this year's London Toy Fair.

Put through their paces by a panel of independent toy retailers, these winning toys for 2011 were announced by the British Toy and Hobby Association's chairwoman, Christine Nicholls, at the Toy Fair yesterday.

While favourite names you'll recognise from your own childhood, such as LEGO and Meccano, made the list, licensed toys have fared well, with brands such as Ben 10, Harry Potter, Hello Kitty and Star Wars topping the toy chart.

Hmmmm as interesting as it is, I can't help but feel sad that traditional toys are being kicked off the top spot :-(
What happened to the lovely wooden toy sets and hand painted stuff we used to play with when we were kids?
I know kids have to move with the times (and maybe I do) but all these top new toys look a bit plastic for me...

I totally agree! Was thinking that exact same thing... spooky. I know children love all the gimmicky stuff, I just wish toys were more like they used to be! About 2 years ago

Sorry but I always wanted the plastic rubbish when I was bought the lovely wooden toys as a child! Don't see why everything has to be battery opereated though.

Although I've yet to find any lego sets that rival the Fabuland that I had as a child and my dad had saved for the grandchildren!
