If space is at a premium, a compact-fold pushchair can make everyday life much easier. Whether you have a small car boot, do lots of travelling as a family, or simply don’t want to wrestle with a bulky buggy every day, these space-saving pushchairs are designed to fold down neatly while still offering plenty of practical features.

Some are small enough to be taken on a plane as hand luggage, while many are also lightweight, making them easier to carry up stairs or onto public transport. In this guide, we’ve included both true compact-fold buggies for travel and urban life, plus a handful of more fully featured pushchairs that still fold smaller than many of their rivals.

Best compact pushchairs at a glance

How we chose and tested these pushchairs

MadeForMums has analysed over 600 pushchairs and rigorously tested a wide range of compact-folding models to help you decide which one is best for you. Each of our recommended compact-folding pushchairs has been used regularly by a journalist with a baby or toddler, and we’ve combined these results with our expert industry knowledge, plus feedback from parent testers all over the UK, to bring you the best selection.

Our number one consideration was fold size, but for each item on our list, we’ve also considered ease of fold, size of fold, weight, price, age suitability, car seat or carrycot compatibility and whether it can be parent- and world-facing. We also looked at accessories and extra features to bring you a variety of options.

Our Best lists are compiled by qualified and experienced parenting journalists. They rely on a number of sources, including our independent reviews, testing undertaken during the MadeForMums Awards, and feedback from our home testing panel and MadeForMums Club. Each year thousands of products are put through their paces by hundreds of parents across the country on behalf of MadeForMums, to ensure we’re bringing you honest and true reviews and recommendations.

This list is not ranked 1-12, instead it is a carefully selected group of tried-and-tested products, each of which we believe is best for a different situation or requirement. We don’t just tell you what is best, we help you discover what is best for your family.

Bugaboo Butterfly 2, £429

Best for: Everyday use and travel

Bugaboo Butterfly 2 product shot and baby sitting in pushchair

Why we chose it: Compact and travel-friendly but sturdy and comfortable enough for everyday use, the Butterfly 2 is one of the best all-rounders in this category.

Given its suitability from birth through to preschool age, and its versatility as an everyday pushchair as well as an effective and cabin-approved travel stroller, it could well be the only pushchair you ever need to buy.
MFM reviewer Daisy

MFM Review star rating4.7 stars

Compact enough for travel but sturdy enough for everyday use, the Bugaboo Butterfly 2 is one of the most versatile compact-fold pushchairs available. Its lie-flat recline, full suspension and generous basket make it practical as a main buggy, especially for city families, while the one-handed fold and cabin-approved size keep it ideal for holidays and public transport.

In testing, it handled kerbs, uneven pavements and busy supermarket aisles with ease, and the roomy seat worked well for both a baby and a toddler thanks to the quick-adjust harness. The fixed handlebar height and lack of a shoulder strap when folded are worth noting, but if you want a single stroller that works for both everyday errands and travel, it’s a strong all-round choice.

Silver Cross Nia, £395

Best for: Newborn travel

Reviewer with baby in Silver Cross Nia and product shot of the stroller

Why we chose it: Cabin approved in both seat and carrycot mode, the Silver Cross Nia is a genuinely travel-ready stroller that still delivers comfort, durability and everyday practicality.

It’s the most travel-friendly stroller I’ve ever used. It’s small, light, practical, easy to manoeuvre and not to mention, it looks good too.
MFM reviewer Mel

What we like

  • Aircraft cabin approved in both seat and carrycot mode
  • Compact size
  • Durable build despite its compact footprint and light weight
  • Agile design with seamless one-handed fold
  • All-round comfort, from carrycot to lie-flat stroller seat

What to keep in mind

  • Instruction manual could be clearer
  • A little heavier than some lightweight rivals
  • World-facing only seat
  • Premium price point

MFM Review star rating4.9 stars

Brand new from Silver Cross, the Nia is designed for families who travel frequently but still want an everyday-ready pushchair. Compact enough for overhead lockers, train luggage spaces and small car boots, it stands out as one of the few compact strollers that’s cabin approved with both the seat and carrycot attached — making it especially useful from birth.

Even without the carrycot (sold separately for £200), the stroller includes a lie-flat seat and car seat adaptors as standard. In testing, it proved smooth and easy to manoeuvre across pavements, cobbles and holiday terrain, while remaining nimble in airports and tight shop aisles.

It also offers a generous canopy, supportive seat and an impressive 8kg storage basket for a compact stroller. The seat is world-facing only and the price sits at the premium end, but if you’re planning to travel from birth, it’s one of the most practical options available.

Stokke YOYO3, £399

Best for: Convertibility

Stokke YOYO3 tester picture and product shot

Why we chose it: Few compact pushchairs offer as many ways to adapt and expand as the YOYO3.

The Stokke YOYO³ pushchair and 0+ newborn pack have become my go-to pram for my two-month-old son. It’s so small and lightweight that I’m confident taking it anywhere – whether that’s a high street, public transport in rush hour, or on a long walk with lots of hills!

The YOYO was one of the first truly compact folding pushchairs of this type and remains hugely popular. Now in its third iteration, the Stokke YOYO3 still stands out for its compactness, ease of use and clever details.

It also offers much more flexibility than many rival compact buggies. As well as two newborn options, there’s a ride-on board for older children, a roll-along storage bag and even a connect seat that can turn it into a tandem double pushchair. For some parents, that level of adaptability makes it possible to use the YOYO as their main pram.

Kinderkraft Apino, £119.99

Best for: Budget buy

Kinderkraft Apino compact stroller

Why we chose it: At under £120, it offers excellent value for a compact stroller with a one-handed fold and useful everyday features.

If you're looking for a budget, lightweight, compact stroller to use in the city or predominantly for short walks, I'd recommend the APINO. I loved the auto-folding feature, and this has become a game-changer for me. The stroller shines in areas like portability and reclining comfort, but it falls short in durability over rough terrain.
MFM reviewer Laura, who tested the pushchair with her 11-month-old son Ellis

  • Stylish design
  • Easy auto-fold
  • Extendable hood
  • Large storage basket

  • Tricky to carry when folded
  • Wheels can be noisy

MFM Review star rating3.8 stars

The Apino stroller from Kinderkraft represents really amazing value in this category, especially as it has some key features included that are missing on some far more expensive strollers, such as a bumper bar and one-handed magic fold. It isn’t the smoothest ride of all the compact folds we tried, and it is heavier than some rivals, but for the price it still stands out.

The seat lies near-flat, and you can buy car seat adaptors (£24.95 at Pramworld) to attach an infant carrier and transform it into a travel system.

Graco Myavo, £130

Best for: Lightweight budget buy

Graco Myavo tester picture and product image

Why we chose it: It’s a very lightweight, easy-folding option that keeps costs low while still offering strong day-to-day practicality.

If you're looking for a lightweight buggy on a budget, the Graco Myavo is a really great option, especially for travel. I loved its intuitive, quick and easy one-handed fold, incredibly spacious basket and the design of the seat unit.
MFM reviewer Steph, who tested the pushchair with her 1-year-old daughter (pictured above) and 3-year-old son

What we like

  • Very lightweight
  • One-handed fold
  • Great value
  • Good manoeuvrability
  • Smooth and responsive handling
  • Large basket for a compact stroller
  • Versatile seat positioning
  • Great for taller children

What to keep in mind

  • No specific newborn accessory
  • Not the most sturdy
  • Harness fastening is complicated
  • Materials and design give a somewhat cheap appearance
  • Lack of grip and padding on the shoulder straps, and absence of groin pad
  • When the canopy is retracted, the hood rubs against the handlebar
  • Lack of ventilation — no breathable mesh panel

MFM Review star rating4.2 stars

If you're looking for a cheap day-to-day runaround that folds up small and is easy to carry, you can't go far wrong with Graco's Myavo stroller. At a fraction of the price of some more premium models in this list, it still packs in plenty of useful features, including a good-sized UPF 50+ hood, solid wheels, a bumper bar, a calf rest and a decently sized basket.

It also has a one-handed magic fold, although it is worth noting this has one of the larger folds on the list and is not suitable for taking into the cabin of a plane. Although the buggy doesn't have a specific newborn cocoon or pod, it can be used from birth due to its full recline, though it will be more useful for many families from around the 6 month mark.

iCandy Pip, £429

Best for: Growing with your child

iCandy Pip tester picture and product shot

Why we chose it: Its roomy seat, 25kg weight limit and lie-flat recline make it one of the best compact options for longer-term use.

The iCandy Pip is a great pushchair overall, with lots to offer families including a smooth ride, portability and style in one neat little package. It’s a great choice for urban parents needing a stroller that can weave through busy streets and hop on and off public transport, and for frequent flyers needing a stylish but compact pram for holidays.
MFM reviewer Steph, who tested the iCandy Pip with her 10-month-old daughter

What we like

  • Wide ventilation window
  • Four-wheel suspension and great manoeuvrability
  • Stylish
  • Practical hand strap for carrying

What to keep in mind

  • Basket is small
  • Bumper bar and handle mark easily
  • Slightly fiddly seat recline

If you’re after the premium feel iCandy is known for, but in a much smaller package, the Pip is well worth a look. It combines plush fabrics, good suspension and a stylish finish with a compact, cabin-friendly fold.

What really helps it stand out is how long it can last. The tall, wide seat and generous 25kg weight limit mean it should comfortably suit many children well into the preschool years, while still being compact enough for city living and travel.

Ergobaby Metro 3, £369.90

Best for: An adjustable handlebar

Ergobaby Metro3 pushchair product shot and toddler sitting in buggy

Why we chose it: This smart compact stroller offers an excellent mix of comfort, easy folding and parent-friendly practicality, particularly for city families.

I would recommend the Ergobaby Metro 3 for young families living in urban areas, cities and market towns because of its slender, modern design and smooth manoeuvrability through narrow spaces.
Parent tester Harriet, who tested the Metro 3 with her 23-month-old son

What we like

  • One-handed five-second fold
  • Compact for travel and storage
  • Comfortable, well-padded seat
  • Near-flat seat recline and adjustable footrest
  • Spacious storage basket for a compact stroller
  • Adjustable handlebar

What to keep in mind

  • Unfolding is slightly stiff and usually needs two hands
  • Can tip on tight turns
  • Heavier to carry than some compact-fold rivals

MFM Review star rating4.6 stars

An update to the Metro+ model, the Ergobaby Metro 3 is designed for city living and travel, combining a compact one-handed fold with comfort from birth to around 4 years. Useful upgrades include wider front wheels for a larger basket, an adjustable handlebar and a near-flat recline with an integrated newborn nest. A carrycot is also available separately if you prefer a more traditional newborn setup.

In testing, it proved practical for everyday errands, fitting easily into smaller hallways, cafés and car boots, while the freestanding fold makes storage straightforward. The padded seat, adjustable footrest and good hood coverage support comfortable naps on the go, and the adjustable handlebar is a welcome feature that’s still relatively rare in this category.

It is slightly heavier to carry than some compact rivals and can tip on sharper turns, but for urban families wanting comfort, storage and a compact fold in one neat package, it’s a strong all-round choice.

UPPAbaby Minu V3, £399.99

Best for: Sturdiness

UPPAbaby MINU V3 tester picture with pushchair folded and product shots

Why we chose it: It feels more solid and practical than many compact-fold rivals, while still staying travel-friendly.

When folded, the pushchair is smaller than a carry-on suitcase and fits easily in a small car boot. I also took it with me into a bus seat, stashed it under the table in a restaurant and on a weekend away when we were struggling for space in our car, stowed it in the footwell behind my daughter's car seat.
MFM reviewer Steph, who tested the pushchair with her 6-month-old daughter

What we like

  • Quick and simple to unfold and fold
  • Easy buckle adjustment
  • Smooth recline seat
  • Generous basket
  • Sturdy frame

If you're worried that compact folds can feel flimsy for daily use, the UPPAbaby Minu V3 is one of the models that proves otherwise. Like the brand’s larger prams, it offers strong build quality and a very generous basket for its class.

Despite that sturdiness, it still folds down small enough to be useful for travel and tight spaces. The lie-flat seat and roomy seat unit also mean it can work well from birth and continue to suit your child for longer than some more minimal compact strollers.

Cybex Libelle, £269.95

Best for: Travel

Cybex libelle pushchair compact fold

Why we chose it: Its incredibly small fold makes it one of the best options for families who travel often.

A fashionable, slick buggy for city life and travelling. While not the cheapest on the market, it is good value, modern and durable, likely to last many years. Just don’t expect it to help you cart loads of shopping or baby bags about at the same time.

  • Cabin-approved (for most airlines)

The Cybex Libelle has one of the most eye-catching compact folds in our round-up, folding down into a neat, flat package that is smaller than most hand luggage allowances. It’s a two-handed fold, but it’s easy enough to operate and makes a lot of sense if your top priority is travel.

The compromise for that tiny fold is a pushchair that’s slightly less versatile than some others here. It doesn’t come with a carrycot option and the recline doesn’t go near-flat, but it is compatible with Cybex’s infant car seats, so you can use it from birth as a travel system if needed.

Best for: Parent-facing seat

Cybex Eezy S Twist+2 compact fold pushchair

Why we chose it: The clever rotating seat makes this one of the very few compact pushchairs to offer both parent- and world-facing options.

A super stylish, lightweight, compact buggy, perfect for home and travel, which handles like a dream. Compact when folded, it’s perfect for people with smaller car boots or limited space in the home.

The stand-out feature here is the 360-degree rotating seat, which lets you switch between parent-facing and world-facing with ease. That makes it a particularly good option for younger babies, especially as it also has a lie-flat seat and the option to add a Cybex carrycot.

It is one of the heavier options on our list thanks to that twisting mechanism, but it still folds compactly and pushes beautifully. MFM reviewer Katy was especially impressed by how robust and easy to steer it felt, while members of our MadeForMums Club also rave about it.

It folds one-handed, stays upright when folded and offers a well-padded seat, bumper bar and extendable hood. It’s especially well suited to urban families who want something compact and easy to use without compromising on looks.

Why we chose it: It’s a strong choice for families who want the features of a full city pushchair with a smaller-than-average fold.

If you're looking for one pushchair from birth but still want something with a relatively small fold, the Bugaboo Dragonfly could be a great fit. It’s not a traditional compact-fold stroller, but rather a full city pushchair that folds flatter and more neatly than many similar models.

Its collapsible carrycot and roomy basket make it especially practical for urban life, although the folding carrycot does take some getting used to. Still, for parents who want comfort, storage and everyday usability in a more space-conscious design, it offers a lot.

What should I look for or consider when buying a compact-fold pushchair?

Frequency of use

Some strollers are super-light and the perfect solution for travel, but might feel a bit too lightweight for everyday use. Others are more substantial, combining a comparatively compact fold with the versatility of a full-sized travel system and suitability from birth. Identifying what matters most to you will make choosing much easier.

Age suitability

A lot of compact-folding pushchairs are designed for older babies and toddlers who can sit up, but an increasing number are suitable from birth, either with a lie-flat seat or the option to buy a carrycot. Some are also travel system compatible, meaning you can attach an infant car seat.

Seat recline

Some compact-folding pushchairs only have a small recline, which may be fine for toddlers but not for younger babies. If you’re using this as your main buggy from birth, we’d strongly recommend choosing one that lies completely flat or comes with a carrycot.

Adjustability

Many compact strollers don’t offer much in the way of adjustability, such as an extendable handlebar, parent-facing seat or fully flat recline. These features add weight and bulk, so if they matter to you, you may want to choose a model that is slightly less compact.

Fold type

Not all compact folds are equally easy to use. Some are truly one-handed with the push of a button, while others need two hands or a few more steps but may fold down much smaller as a result.

Comfort

When a design focuses heavily on minimising size, comfort features such as generous padding, suspension or a large hood can be reduced. If this will be your everyday pushchair, comfort may be a deciding factor.

Storage

Basket size and access can vary dramatically. If you rely on your buggy to carry shopping, a changing bag or other essentials, storage may be one of your top priorities.

Accessories

Some models come with useful extras, while others charge separately for basics such as a raincover. It’s worth checking what is included before deciding whether something is really good value.

Price

Although compact-fold pushchairs are smaller and lighter, they’re not always cheap. Most sit in the £200 to £400 bracket, while more comprehensive from-birth options can cost significantly more.
