Episode 4: Sensory story techniques for 2 to 5 year olds

After a busy and sometimes noisy day, it can be hard for kids to unwind and get into the right headspace for sleep. This podcast will help your child to relax as they use their imagination to go to beautiful, still places.

They'll be encouraged to let go of any negative thoughts and to let their mind make way for stillness and sleep.

First off, they'll be led through a woodland walk. Then they'll be asked to imagine a beautiful garden with lots of lovely sights and sounds.

They'll use their attention to build a 'mind garden' - where they'll grow and water flowers and bask in the warm sunlight.

These story techniques will get your child feeling restful and ready for a great sleep - and hopefully some peaceful dreams, too.

Our Sleepy Time podcast, made in partnership with wellbeing and mindfulness experts In The Moment magazine, helps children aged 2 to 5 years, and 5 to 8 years, become settled and peaceful sleepers. Exercises and meditations have been created by psychologist and yoga teacher Suzy Reading, and will build into a toolkit that your child will be able to learn and use by themselves over time. Meditation expert Gemma David of The Quiet Heart is our soft-voiced podcast narrator.
